It only took a year or so to change the "hooked-lipped" thread to "black rhino"!

[quote="francoisd"] To our amazement the terrapin starting picking off the ticks from around the anus of the rhino.

Yep, they do that, eating the ticks straight away from the rhinos, buffalos aswell. saw that many times, but ur pics are really good.

Here are some old pics (sorry, they're terrible quality and scanned), but they're of a group of 22 white rhino - some were in the road, some off in the veld to the left and some out towards the right!! It was hard to capture all of them, but here are some shots!! It was in about 2000 (was one of the most amazing rhino sightings we've ever had!)

Thanks vlakvarkvrou - It was so cute and was quite inquisitive. It looks like a sulking child!

Hey, Bush Fairy!

Nothing wrong with the first pics!

Where were they...looks like the Lower Sabie area?

I think the Kruger record for a group was 14 or 18 at Mpondo Dam, but that was a while ago!

It was indeed near Lower Sabie Richprins ;) Early in the morning, they were all bulls, apart from two (but maybe only one - it was quite confusing trying to sort out 22 rhinos!) which were females - we assumed that the female/s was in oestrus and it had attracted all these bulls? 19 of them were bunched quite close to each other when we arrived and then another three came trotting down the road and joined the group! Was an incredible sighting!! Quite bizarre really!
