Not pretending to be an expert but have read on here, that Sanparks marks lions that have escaped from a park at some time, so they have a record of those that could become a problem.

has any one seen the 3 Toulon males that are dominant near Skukuza/Tinga areas for the past 9 months and does anyone know what prides they are with and any other info on them. I followed them while they were dominant in southern sabi sands from May 2009 thru Feb 2011 and since they crossed over into Kruger in August 2011 the reports on them are few and far between. thanks

Hi Jasond, a very warm welcome to you :D

I am not sure whether this might be one of the Lions. I took it close to the Lower Sabie/ Skukuza intersection on the Lower Sabie road. It was very close to Skuks.

This was in Dec/Jan though. I only managed 2 pictures of 1 lion, but they all looked magnificent.

I saw them in January on the H11 just before the S65 turn off. Lots of Vultures in a tree right next to the road. Two of them walked into the road and lay down. The third then very nervously came out of the bushes and joined his brothers. Was fantastic because it was myself and one other car, very early, about 4.45 in the morning. Then a taxi almost pushed them out of the way, and they ran into the bush on the opposite side.
Have photos, just need to find them.

Hi there

We also saw them at the entrance to lake panic birdhide in December 2011, as well as one of them trying to hunt a giraffe on the H11 at the turnoff to lake panic the previous evening. One defintely has a blond mane and the other two darker manes. They must surely be the same three that took a buffalo outside Skukuza main gate last year and it seems they prefer bigger prey. I know they were spotted on alpha loop last week along the Sabie River and we also heard them roaring (not sure if it was them) close to Skukuza 2 weeks ago. Have not seen them with any females, but 7 lionesses hunted on the Skukuza golf course yesterday and they could well be part of this pride.

Regards
Katmal

Hi..
I was lucky enough to see the on the 30 April 2012.
We were driving towards skukuza camp, at the H11 H1-1 intersection we saw one male running towards us, we turned around following him on the H11. He was roaring, in the distance we could hear more roars.
He stopped and his 2 other brothers came to meet him.
One definitely has a lighter mane and the other 2 are dark maned.
Now all 3 roaring (hair raising experience) turn around and walk towards the intersection to meet up with 2 females.
They then embrace each other and sit next to the road. Time 18h00, camps gate closing, have to leave them and make off to camp.
Excuse my picture quality, was taken with me blackberry...

It seems they only hunt big prey
I would be interested to follow the 3 brutes progress!
