Recently spent 3 - 4 hours at Lake Panic, which was buzzing with activity.

The most acitivity though came from these hippo's busy mating....every now and again he'd be chased off by another bull, just to continue again....

Image

Image

The bull would press the female/cow down for long periods at a time.....and then every few minutes she'd just submerge her nostrils for a breath of fresh air, before he pushes her down again...

Image

Then he'd just show the others who's the man...
Image

Image

Just to start the whole excersise again....

Greetings to ALL,

Can anyone give feedback on the "activities" at Malelane bridge, upon exiting the park yesterday, we noticed a dead hippo on the banks of the river, a lot of crocodiles were hanging around in the area.

We were informed that the hippo was struck by lightning on saturday, if I could if would have camped on the bridge last night and for the next few days - but nou ja, we have to work during the week. :(

Had a lovely weekend at Pretoriuskop, saw a leopard at the T -junction towards Skukuza and all the rest of the big five.

If any lucky soul is at the park now and have taken photos of the hippo carcass please make available for all.

Thanks

BosMal

Hey BosMal. I have my doubts about the lightning story, as although there was heaps of lightning on the Saturday night, when I went into the park for a drive on Saturday at 9, the hippo was not there, but lay dead when I came out around 12:30. So not sure if it would have taken so long to die if struck by lightning the previous night?

I unfortunately did not take photos but yes, what a traffic jam!!

When we went in on Sunday for another dirve, there was an ULTRA huge croc guarding the carcass. THis was 05:30 and here we are watching the croc, when a LEOPARD walks out from the reeds and strolls away towards the distant trees :)

Also 6 separate sightings of rhino - two of them with calves!
