Southern or mountain reedbuck? Seen just north of Lower Sabie on the H10.

It takes one tree to make 10,000 matches, but one match to burn 10,000 trees.

Thanks, Mike. I had to reload the previous pic because Tinypic chopped of his legs.

Here is a side view - pic isn't very clear though. This one shows a dark patch under its ear which makes me think its a mountain reedbuck.

I have to agree with Pantera 100%.

That's a Southern Reedbuck. Adding to what has been said already, the big strong build is typical of the Southern, as opposed to the Mountain which is a much smaller and slender built animal.

Jane wrote:The Mopani/Tzendze area is also a brilliant area for Reedbuck. Apart from being a premier carnivore area it also is the best area for the less common antelope species which are also well represented. Reedbuck are best viewed on the Eastern Plains out of these 2 camps at all of the Shawu Windmills. Normally they announce your arrival with their shrill whistle call

Thanks indeed Jane!  Strange that the Mopani area is usually considered a poor game-viewing area in general!

We always get our Reedbuck customers around Nshawu waterholes… on our last visit we saw 5 there in one morning (one being caught by 4 cheetahs!)

Saw the following Reedbuck on our way to Satara.

RP, lovely bent-back action shot.  Caught in the act, so to speak. Perhaps they were chasing each other so that you could get the pic? :hmz:

Leeukos, super buck!  Nicely posed there. I wonder if that is the same one that hangs around the Satara area, about 10km north on the tar road?
