Hi Everyone.

Has anyone seen this antelpoe in Kruger :?:

I have see n it in the following places :

- S114 - 2006
- S23 - 2006

I usually bump into them between Berg & Dal & Lower Sabie. It was the first mammal I ever saw in KNP, at Mestel dam. I never saw them in that area again in all the years I've been to Kruger.

Behind Muntshe mountain like a coconut. If the grass is long then its a bit of a struggle but there are a good few there.

Like Bwana said the Muntshe area of the H10 is quite good. Have seen them around there a few times over the years.

Latest were three at Muntshe waterhole last year September.

Hi,

Saw one at Sabie River fighting a bushbuck. It was special from a distance, but you could see nothing on the camera-the road was blocked.

Their is a resident reedbuck that can be seen from the hide at the malelane sun hotel - I have only seen reedbuck twice -both at this hide a year apart - both at night

I saw a Mountain Reedbuck on a nightride near malelane
and once on a nightride in lapalala

They seem to be ac tive mainly at night

They are active in the day as well ...plentiful around P Kop and Stolznek (Wolhuter Trail ) There was another one that was there for years at Babalala Picnic Spot but one year he was gone....??

Mass: 50-95 kg
Shoulder Height: 0,65-1,05 m
Taill length: 25 cm
Life-span: +/- 10 yrs
Main Predators: Lion, leopard, wild dog, spotted hyaena & cheetah.
Other Predators: Crocodile, large snakes
Young also fall prey to: Serval, jackals & eagles

ID Pointers:
- White, bushy underside of tail prominent when fleeing.
- Dark line on front faces of forelegs.
- Ram has forward-curved horns

Description:
- Medium-sized
- Uniformly brown or greyish-fawn upperparts, head & neck slightly paler.
- Underparts & underside of tail are white.
- Vertical black stripe on forward-facing area of front legs.
- Ears broad, rounded and white on inner surface.
Scent Glands: Beneath ears and ingunial.
Senses: very good sight, hearing & smell.
Horns: Only rams have horns. They curve forward, are partially ridged for two thirds of length, smooth tips. Length: 30-45 cm.

Distribution in KNP:
Malelane/ Berg-En-Dal areas; Lower Sabie/Tshokwane areas; Satara/Orpen areas; Mopani/Shingwedzi/Punda Maria areas.

Habitat:
Tall grass, reed beds colse to water.

Behaviour:
In pairs & family parties. Emit frequent whistling communications.

Food:
Predominantly grazers, but also browse.

Reproduction:
Single fawn of 4,5 kg is born after a gestation of 220 days. Remains hidden for 2 months in dense grass/vegetation.
