Hey guys,

I decided that I would like to go to Kruger for a short visit next week and managed to get accommodation at Tamboti for one night. We will be staying 3 nights at Pretoriuskop and 1 night Tamboti.

I have never been this far up. I have visited Satara but never stayed there so I don't really know the roads that well.
What would you recommend the route I take from Pretoriuskop to Tamboti and what roads should I do when I am there?

Thanks

Hi Massimo,

You must definitely do the H7 Orpen-Satara road. That often gives good sightings.

I agree the H7 has great sightings. On my past trip this December we had our best sights though on the road between Skukuza and Satara, so you are in for a good day.

the H7 is a very good road. also the gravel road past the rabbelais hut. we saw a leopard and lions about 300m from each other on that road.

Hi Massimo

Warning staying that far up north could lead to addiction!!!

I would drive up the S36 past Nhlanguleni and then past Talamati from Pretoriuskop to Tamboti. The sightings might not be numerous, but the road is generally quieter and the sightings is special. Nice area to search for sable and cheetah, especially the 1st part and the road past Talamati. Both the picnic spots on this road is nice, quiet, rustic and really relaxes you!!

Nsemani is a must stop and then try and get to Nwanetsi if possible, I personally go via the H6 and then towards Satara on the same road, or if you prefer you can take the (in)famous S100.

Hope this gives you some ideas, glad you are going to Pretoriuskop, not everybody loves it, but it has a very special place in my heart.

Hi Massimo

Well chosen! Tamboti is a very good camp.

As said by others, try the H7 Orpen to Satara road as this road is one of the best roads for cheetah and wilddog in the whole of KNP .

Enjoy your stay!

Cool Rufie :D Nice to have you around
Based on the travel tales of late, the lions have not been seen that frequently on the Orpen side of the H7 :hmz: Although hyena sightings have been common :D And still a good road for leopard! And of coarse the Orpen pack of wild dogs 8)
