Cheetah2111......Thank you for the great news.

We also saw a big Pack a couple of times on the H7 close to Orpen in 2012.

Dup I wish we could have the packs and their territories mapped out!
However it seems you are correct in that many packs operate on the Western side of Southern Kruger!

The Jock pack are also seen on the Voortrekker road on both sides of Afsaal. Today they were seen on the H3
at the Jock Safari access road

There is a pack of 12 that hangs out closer to Malalane gate. They have been seen there this morning on the S110 and H3 turnoff. Perhaps they are of the lineage of the 'Matjulu pack' that we once referred to them as?

There is another pack of 8 wild dogs that has been seen over the last week. They have operated around the H12, S30 Salitjie and H1-2 roads. We also have photographic evidence that they jogged down the H1-2 all the way down to the Sand River bridge!

I can confirm the pack at H1-2 and H12, we saw them in June, there were 7 if I recall correctly.
I did post some photo's on the H1-2 topic

Wild dogs have always been a favorite of mine. Wish I could see a pack when I'm there next week. Is there a pack on the H 7 from Orpen to Satara, or the n1-4/n1-5 all the way up towards Shingwedzi. That will be my main road, and would really like to see this beautiful creature once more.

Hi Johan, there is definitely a pack on the H7, they are seen regularly, but they have evaded me in the past. There is a big pack seen near Tamboti quite often and they are also seen often between Satara and Nsemani dam

I'm in the middle of my trip report, so pictures will show up there as I get to them, but in November 2013 we saw:

6 adults on the S25 on 9 Nov, 2 with collars

pack of 10+ on the Nwatimwambu access road 13 Nov (leaving trail camp)

Pack of 30+ on H7 near Orpen/Nwamatsatsa river 23 Nov, many subadults

(not in Kruger) pack of 8 in Sabi Sands, 28 Nov

There are apparently 7 collared dogs in Southern Kruger. The wild dog researcher was saying on twitter that more collared dogs would be preferable, however they are quite expensive.

In November (2013) my uncle saw a pack of 42 on the Rabalais loop between Orpen and Satara.

I am going to the Park in Feb could anyone give me some more info of the pack in the North? Such as where they have been sighted lately and a rough estimate of numbers, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks

We have seen the pack in December 2013 also on the Rabalais loop, but they were only 28 strong. Killed a duiker not even 10 meters from our vehicle - what a day!!!

A good question!

The Phalaborwa pack is seen quite often, and the roads being the H9 to Letaba and the S131 dirt road between Letaba and Phalaborwa.
Other than that, I don't hear much of the wild dogs in the North. In December there was a sighting of dogs on the S143 tropic of capricorn loop. Though I can't remember how many :hmz:
I'm asking for info now

I have seen photographs on facebook of 9 wild dogs seen North of Mopani on the tar road on Christmas day  They were also reported around that time on the Shongololo Loop near Mopani

Still waiting for a recent account of the bataleur pack :hmz: Last sighting I can come across so far is 2 years ago :hmz:
