Hi There Everybody,

I am looking to photograph Sundevalls Leaf Nosed Bat (Hipposiderus caffer) and know that there are often sightings of this species in the ladies bathrooms at Nkuhlu picnic spot, just east of Skukuza. Are they still hanging around there? (excuse the pun )

Report backs will be hugely appreciated! It will be incredibly interesting as i received sightings of these bats at the same spot at Nkuhlu in 2008, and if they are still using that roost it would be their 4th or so year!

I've been back since but never in October but I'll be there next month so I'll have a look for you.

I saw them too in August 2010. Last month they weren't there!

Thank you Granjan and Helene, it will be a great pity if they have moved off as this has been one of the most reliable spots for this species in Kruger..

Anyone for further news on this roost?

There was a single bat in the men's bathroom on 14 October. My girlfriend checked the ladie's and it was bat free unfortunately.

Off to try and see if I can find these guys tomorrow..Before I go, anybody with any last minute news surounding sightings of these guys after October 14 of 2012?

It is with sad news that I report back, The Nkhulu Sundevalls Leaf Nosed Bats have moved onto another roost. This could be due to various reasons (the floods, staff chasing them away etc) but we will never really know. I did find a single dead bat hanging from the males toilet (died of natural causes most probably).
