Die slang seil veilig die bos in.

Eers was daar ’n slang in die gras. Toe is dit skielik onder hul enjinkap ...

“Die slang het uit die gras aangeseil gekom en reguit op ons afgepyl,” het Marlene Swart en Leon Swanepoel van Brits vertel nadat ’n reuse-luislang in die enjinkap van hul silwer Renault Clio beland het met ’n onlangse besoek aan die Krugerwildtuin.

“Ons behoort aan die Facebook-groep Kruger National Park Sightings en ons kry toe ’n boodskap dat daar leeus gesien is naby aan waar ons toe was.

“Op pad soontoe het ons ’n klomp motors sien stilhou en gedink hulle kyk na die leeus.”

Die twee is meegedeel dat daar ’n luislang in die gras is.

“Skielik het die luislang uit die gras verskyn en reguit op ons afgepyl. Ek het vir die bestuurder agter ons beduie om agteruit te ry, maar hy kon my nie verstaan nie,” het sy gesê.

Die slang was toe reeds onder hul motor. Swart en Swanepoel het gewag dat die slang aan die ander kant van die motor uitgeseil kom, maar dit was vergeefs.

“Die mense om ons het naderhand begin lag, want die slang was net weg.”

Die bestuurder van ’n wildbesigtigingsvoertuig het vir die twee gesê hy dink die slang het by die enjinkap ingeseil.

Hulle het dadelik na die naaste uitkykpunt gery en het by Mathekenyane, sowat 10 km van Skukuza, stilgehou.

Die ander motoriste het hulle uit nuuskierigheid agtervolg.

“Ek was vreesbevange, veral toe Leon noem dat die slang dalk iewers ingeseil het waar dit onmoontlik sou wees om hom uit te kry.”

Swanepoel het die motor se enjinkap oopgemaak en die reuse-luislang opgekrul sien lê.

“Daar lê die slang toe salig en bak,” het Swart gesê.

Swanepoel het die slang aan die stert opgetel en hom stadig uit die enjin gehaal. Die slang het ongedeerd weggeseil en gelukkig was daar ook geen skade aan die motor nie.

Intussen het Swart en Swanepoel heeltemal van die leeus vergeet en het hulle dadelik ná die voorval Skukuza toe gery om suikerwater te kry.

“Ons kry later ’n boodskap op Facebook wat sê dat iemand ’n baie ontspanne luislang in die gras by Mathekenyane gesien het,” het Swart gesê.
