We stay at Pretoriuskop regularly and have found it very rewarding.

Have seen wild dog 400m from the gate twice in one day, 3 cheetahs as you turn onto the Skukuza Road, Lion also on that road, Lichtenstein Hartebeest. On the sand road to Phabeni gate have seen plenty rhino and a leopard in the tree.

There was a kill in the tree on the sand road, so leopard is also present.

The wildlife is not nearly as prolific as on the road between Lower Sabie and Skukuza, but the huge rocks with the klipspringers is just as beautiful.

Give Pretoriuskop a chance and you will see many unusual sightings.

Was also one of those people who thought there was nothing at P/kop.
This June we drove via Voortrekker road to Skukuza.
A few km before P/kop I saw something in the bushes.
There was a big herd of buffalo in the road further on.
We drove back and there was 7 lions under the trees next to the road!!!
The buffalo came toward the lions.
When they were about 10 meters from the lions they got up and run off.

This was the most wonderful sighting.

Hi spots,
Pretoriuskop is known for it's rare antelope. Which are usually found on the quiet roads, so like ossendryver said remember to take many loops

Have a wonderful Xmas in Pretoriuskop -- we love it and spent 8 nights there 2 weeks ago.
Look for a huge male leopard and female leopard at the turnoff to Voortrekker road, both were seen in that area a few times and about 2 km further down the Fayi loop.
Saw a pride of 2 lionesses with 3 medium sized cubs on the Shabeni loop 3 days in a row and later again, on rocks at Shabeni, in trees next to the road.
Also 4 lionesses on that road, plus a huge male climbing the koppie.
Pack of 8 wild dogs on same road closer to the junction with the Mestel dam road, and hyenas with pups 1 km before the Doispan/Phabeni road intersection -- they sleep in a pipe under the road, and play around early and late in the day.

Hi All!

Congrats to all the wonderfull sightings. My first time to Pkop in 8 years! 14&15 December lots of rain, and the dirt roads will be the evidence! Sable on Voortrekker road, LIT about 5km to the Afsaal road turnoff. Last day, LOG on the Circle Loop, not even 1 km from camp! Will definitly be visiting this area again, keep it coming!

That's exactly what it is, right place right time! We aren't fans of Kruger in December, because of the heat and dense bush but I must say we were really blessed with great sightings and even better weather. I forgot to mention that we saw wilddogs twice on this trip, firstly on Lower-Skukuza road and 2 about 10km after Afsaal. Also must add that all the burnt areas are looking lovely after the much needed rain and it's ideal for game viewing.

I'd also be interested to know, although I am visiting in winter when things will be different.

My daughter and I spent a few days in the Park in about Jan, 2007. We spent our last night at Pretorius Kop. We decided to do a quick drive on Voortrekker road before checking out to go home.

We saw nothing. :( Not even LBJ's. We were about to turn around when this happened.

There were hardly any cars and at one stage we were alone.
