Thanks Anja.

I will be staying in Olifants in April and have been watching this thread. You have just confirmed that I should not move my booking to another camp! :wink:

I agree with Cheetah 111 Has anyone seen anything at or around Oliphants. Whenever we go to the Kruger we go up to Oliphants as I love the view up there, but other than that nothing great!!

Recently On my last few trips to Olifants, I have had very good luck with leopards on the river road up to Letaba :mrgreen:

I always thought that should be a good area for leopards but never saw one here myself :mrgreen:

On our last trip we had a great sighting of a mating lions just 4 ks out of Olifants near the tarroad. And all for ourselves for nearly half an hour. Otherwise it's a little less than Satara. We just like the drive on the dirt roads between Satara and Olifants. very quiet and often good sightings.

@flying Cheetah
On Page 5 of this thread there is apic of the leopard :)

I would have to say that the dirt road between Olifants and Balule is one of my favourite in the central part of the park, cant wait to drive it when Im at Balule on the 16th of June :wall:

I also love the Olifants area, altho' I must admit that I haven't seen a huge amount there. I have had some wonderful lion and elephant sightings tho'. Having said that... on a night drive from Olifants, last October, I saw a pocupine, a lioness, spring hares (a first for me :D ). and 2 honey badgers :dance: . EDIT: I just remembered that we also saw an African wild cat, on that same night drive, as well.

My best sighting, by far, was late one afternoon while on my way to Olifants, also in October last year. I saw this gorgious leopard, on the Ngotso Weir road (S89), just past the weir. He was in a tree a few metres from my car. He was asleep at first but then sat up and eventually came down and started stalking some huge buffalo. Needless to say, he wasn't successful!

We saw a leopard at sunset last night on a closed road (on the sunset guided ride) close to the river. This morning from our balcony, we watched a lioness sleep under a tree for over an hour, across the river - too far to get a clear photo, but what a morning view!

My son and I had an excellent sunset drive on the 31st with John. 7 lions just over the bridge at Balule - the leftovers of 19 that had killed a buffalo the night before. 2 hyaena cubs and a beautiful leopard later with a genet, 2 eagle owls, numerous elephants and hippo out in the spotlight. A truly memorable night out.

On the same stay, we found a pregnant hyaena just north of Olifants, near the river, early morning and a great little family of banded mongoose playing on the road.

Oh yeah, and we found out that monkeys can open fridges, can open juice cartons, are not too partial to bread ( threw that one away for the birds, which was fortunate :-) ) and don't like pineapples or onions.

That sounds like Balule monkeys to me. Maybe they just got their training at Balule before moving to olifants.

Once had a great sighting at N'wamanzi lookout point.
A leopard was walking in the riverbed below the lookout point while we were standing in the open looking at him. So nice to have a long look at his behaviour. :dance:
