I was recently at lataba for 5 nights, a truely beautiful camp specialy if your blomming by the river but we saw all most nothing so we took a fulls days drive down to Olifants and back but still nothing to get exicited about. I was starting to wonder if i'd gone blind or some thing, at least the river roads and views are some consolation and we may just make our next trip for Olifants.
Did anyone else find it difficult to spot anything down there during the end of August? :(

Nick you were certainly not going blind
It is not abnormal to see very little between Letaba and Olifants. But if you go on the tar you should see crocs and hippos in the Olifants river, and usually common to see Elephant in that region
The river road is always beautiful :D

On the S39 last december:

On the S44 in 2004:

Near the S44 on a nightdrive:

But I agree that the area can be rather dull, even birdwise. It is a fantastic landscape though, and that is part of my enjoyment too.
Arriving currently: The photos from our trip! Overhere! :yaya:

:D Good evening everyone!!!

Welcome to the NEW thread: Olifants Sightings!!!!

It has been a busy 2 weeks for me, after moving from Phalaborwa Gate to Olifants as my new place of work.

I guess, now you will be able to follow all the Olifants Rest Camp activity sightings news from here!!!

Since I started here, seen White back Night Heron, a few Leopards, Lion, and lots of beautiful landscapes and little forbs and shrubs in flower!!!

More of that a bit later... :D

Congrats on your new posting, Lourens! That's certainly coming full circle since I did the wonderful stargazing activity with you (and Juanita) way back in 2006. Any chance that you might reinstate that stargazing activity again? Will be looking forward to following your Olifants sightings

Looking forward to this new thread, as we will be spending over a week at Olifants this spring. We have stopped in for an ice cream and to get a replacement pair of binoculars when Torticat's pair died, but haven't spent too much time nearby.
