Re: Shingwedzi 4x4 trail

Discuss activities available in the Kruger National Park, and follow all the sighting reports.

It is very interesting & you get to circumvent the Roan enclosure, see a lot of Big Elephant.
Really worthwhile to go there for the scarce antelope specie.

Also it is very open & sightings include Ostrich with baby, Brown Hyena (for the unbelievers) & raptors of note.

'mites, I am going to rename this topic to the Northern Plains Trail .... there is also a trail called the Shingwedzi trail which goes through the Limpopo side of the transfrontier park.

I will also move this topic to the KNP Activities forum

This is what I wrote in my trip report at the time:

This morning when the 4am alarm went off, the sky was still heavily clouded so we opted to experience the Northern Plains Adventure Trail instead of trying to find birds that were still obviously snugly in their nests!

Four eyes were straining to catch a glimpse of Roan as we circled the Roan camp. A few kilometres on we were very excited to have our first Eland sighting ever in Kruger. In the distance a very shy Eland herd kept their eye on us. Further on, Tsessbe! There is certainly no shortage of buffalo here in the north and we passed at least 3 herds, as well as elephant, kudu, ostrich and zebra.

Lunch was enjoyed under a perfectly blue sky in the most exclusive restaurant in the world. Just us, and Kruger.

As the trail ends very near Pafuri, we turned right and spent a good while on the bridge over the Luhuvu River.

We were on a birding trip

We did not see any roan as we circled the camp.

The trails is very flat and not challenging at all. It is not as pretty as the other adventure trails in the KNP, but has its own charm and beauty.

Leervis, we were staying at Punda when we did the trail. So one can also book it from Punda.
