Has SANPARKS ever thought of introducing a tekker/spotter for game drives in Kruger.I feel the ranger is busy concentrating on the road and tries to spot in the bush when they are able to.Wont it make more sense to have a trekker/spotter to continuously shine the spotlights and look out for signs that might lead to that great sighting.I have been on many game drives in Kruger.Sometimes you get people that are shining the spotlight that don't know how to shine the spotlight. You get so frustrated when you on a night drive and the guys shining the spotlight are shining on the ground or in the sky.The chances of seeing animals becomes more difficult and I think some people spend hard earned money to go on a night drive and are deprived because of these people.I dont tnink that is fair.
I think SANPARKS should charge maybe R10 extra per person or even leave the rates the same and contribute R10 towards the game drive.
For example if the truck is full there are 20 people and R10 per person
= R200.If the game ranger gets to show his people the big 5 that R200 should be allocated to him as an incentive. If he spots 4 out of 5 maybe R150 , 3 out of 5 R100 and so forth. If he spotted 4 out of 5 he should be given R150 and the balance of R50 should be given to SANPARKS for projects like poaching or something constructive.
I have been on game drives where the ranger goes out of his/her way just to please you and make sure you had your moneys worth and on the other hand you get the rangers that dont say much and just want to get back to camp.Once went on a night drive and we were close to camp and it was about 30mins prior to schedule end time.Asked the ranger cant we do this small-he says no I need to go to the bathrrom
We arrive at camp about 15-20mins before the schedule end time. What do you tell the poor guy
Maybe this incentive idea will dedicate all rangers to bring out the best in them.
This is just a suggestion though.
Kruger is our piece of heaven and we got to keep on thinking of ideas to maintain or improve the standard of of our Park!
