HI

When last did any one see the dogs in this area. It is a large group of +- 30 and from after die floods there has been no reports of them again.

We were there for 8 days a week ago and also did not find them.

We last saw them 28 December 2011.

We looked for them just after 25 December 2012, but to no avail.

They have a large territory. I have seen the pack on the S33 as well as the H7, but not recently.

I have seen a photo on facebook and counted 29 dogs in frame :D
The person who posted the photo said 30, although others say 31 is the number.
They are 29-31 dogs

Does anyone have any idea how large a pack gets before it must split off?

According to Richard Estes (The Safari Companion, 1999:pp348) packs of up 20 dogs are common, while packs up to 60 dogs have been reported. The average pack size however is 10 dogs.

Heike Schutze (Field Guide to the Mammals of the Kruger National Park, 2002:pp102) indicates the usual pack size as 10 - 15 dogs and says nomadic packs can grow as large as 30 dogs.

:) :)

Saw them on my last trip in February after the floods
Saw about 15 of them on the Rabelais loop close to Orpen
Saw them on our way out again 5 days later on the H7 and someone said there were 30 of them couldn't see all 30 bush was quite dense

Wild dogs were seen last week on the road from Orpen to Satara according to the sightings board (closer to Orpen).

Welcome to the forum SarahEllert1

We will be in KNP soon and I am very glad to hear of all the recent sightings of the Painted Doggies on the H7. I hope we will also see them
