Re: Madlabantu Adventure 4x4 Trail......anyone done it?

Unread postby Jaco V » Sun Oct 11, 2009 8:45 am

We did the Madlabantu trail in January.
This trail is definitely not to be taken lightly.
It is not called "Man eater" for nothing.

I did a report on our experience of this trail here: A tale of tall grass, insects and a damp spot.......

In short, this trail should rather be done in the dry months.
A vehicle with low range, diff-lock and good ground clearance is advisable.
Game spotting was not the best, but then in January the bush is very dense.

I would recommend this trail.
It has a good mix of bush solitude and a decent 4x4 experience

Unread postby Goronta » Sat Jun 08, 2013 9:19 pm

Does somebody drive recently this 4x4 trail ?
Is it a one way drive ? Can you stop and get out at some places ?(at our own risks, I suppose)
Easy drive in july or need some some technical 4x4 drive knowledge ?

My apology for late reply. I am currently in the field and unable to access my emails during the day. I only have a chance to respond in the evening between 22:00 - 00:00.

Please note that Madlhabantu has not been used by guests since January floods. The conditions made it difficult for graders to repair the road as it was wet for most of the time. It is a one way road and people are not allowed to get out of their vehicles. We expect the road to be accessible at least by late July.

Hi,

Can anyone advise if this trail is still operational?

Is it at all possible to pre-book?

Hi Stephan, we will try and find out if it is open again; but I do know you cannot pre book. You can only book on the day you want to do the trail, at reception, when they open at 7am; or the night before.

Hi again Stephan

Lesego followed up with Kruger:

It is still closed and was scheduled to be fixed during March but the floods past weeks disrupted the schedule.

Madlabantu Adventure trail

Unread postby GlenD » Mon Jun 15, 2015 9:38 am

A question for SANParks, how long do you anticipate keeping the Madlabantu adventure trail closed for?

Is it closed indefinitely or are there any plans to reopen it sometime?

We will be staying at Pretoriuskop in October this year and hope to be able to make use of it.

I have done this trail on a previous occasion and I can understand the closure due to damage caused by heavy rains.

Dear Valued Stakeholder

Madlabantu Adventure trail is situated at one of the Rhino Poaching hotspots. The trail is likely to remain closed until such a time, the situation goes back to normal as it could be dangerous for tourists.
