Leopard doens't like what he sees in the mirror - 25 December 2012

This video is of a leopard looking at his reflection in a black car. He thinks it's another leopard so he starts to hiss at the mirror like car and scratch the car.
This is really rare and unique footage!

It was taken on the H1-2 N of skukuza in the Kruger National Park in South Africa

Video by Christelle Hurter

Eish, something weird there, cause from the video(BTW, it does not show on this site) the leopard even saw his reflection in the tyres. Maybe it was the clicking of the tongue at the leopard, or similar irritations from the car.

Great footage by Christelle Hurter. Also had a similar experience with a young leopard, but the one that approached our car was much calmer. See my avatar for a pic of the leopard resting behind my car.

Thanks OS  that was fantastic footage. Those neck muscles  lovely to see so close up.

It was a good idea to eventually close the window

While it is certainly amazing to see such a sighting, this is evidence of the behavior of the animals being altered. In my opinion this is going to get worse and in a couple of years time, we will no longer see the "wild" animals that we are seeing today, with all the animals becoming more and more used to seeing people. This is going to get worse with the hotel being erected (hence the increase in the number of cars, in the already over-crowded south of the Park).
Does anyone else also experience the number of vehicles at Big5 sightings having increased dramatically lately (this is pure speculation, but possibly due to the BBM Groups and new Sightings Apps that are springing up)???
It will indeed be a sad day when the elusive leopard is seen walking peacefully along the road without being afraid of our vehicles.

MNJ001 that's why you will only see me at Mapungubwe these days it's still wild. I'm in that area once or twice a year (sometimes more if I can help it).

Ja, even the goats, donkeys, and cattle are still wild in Mapungupwe. But then, there are no Sightings App's up there, so it does make sense to go there.

But we all know there is a zoo in the south, and NO animals in the north of Kruger.
