I guess the proposed mining in the area stopped all plans for a new park. There was a debate on 50/50 (before the programme was axed) about the pro's and con's of the mining. Perhaps people in higher places thought that a couple of easy bucks could be made out of the granting of mining rights, and told minister van Schalkwyk to forget about his new National Park.
