Hi Joep, your pics really bring back good memories.

Take the photo of the little girl next to an ‘urn’ at the Timbavati picnic spot in 1982 (photo by Sarel Retief). Behind all those stones was where you parked your cars and you had to negotiate carefully down the stones to the picnic area. Now if you look at the Timbavati Picnic site in 1968 that LeighVlasso posted on 30 August 2010, past where the picnic area assistant is proudly standing with his kettle, you will see in the far distance is where the very basic toilets were situated (long drops and all). If you had an emergency, you also had a problem getting to the loo in time.

Thanks, Chip, for your comments and yes, I clearly remember the old Timbavati with the faraway longdrop toilets. Yes, these pics bring back vivid memories! Enjoy, I will post some again soon! Joep

These calendars would be scooped up by serious Kruger fans, guaranteed. (Just like the 2011 Kruger Park Memories Calendars!)

We are already at work collecting photos for the 2012 calendar. Joep Stevens was one of the main suppliers of photos for the 2011 calendar and we will be visiting him again early next year. I see he has asked forumites for permission to add their photos to his personal collection too - so we can work through him to choose photos and get the necessary permission. The Wild Card website has also set up a special gallery and they are keeping contributors details so that we can also approach them for permission to use their photos (not all Wild Card holders visit this Forum).

Midrand region came into being in March this year and we did the 2011 calendar as our first fundraiser, having no idea how it was going to be received (but with a lot of encouragement from Joep!). We have sold almost 2000 of them and it is good to know that the funds raised will all return to the Kruger Park in some way.

Thanks Mel@anie for sharing those wonderful pics. The second last of your camp ones marked "Lower Sabie?" I would say is Pretoriuskop and at a quick glance the Punda Maria pic is a mirror image of the picture (slide or negative). Thanks again for sharing these wonderful pics and I enjoyed the animal ones too!

Good memories , thanks M .

I think the photo of baboon on the roadsign was taken where the old Lower Sabie / Tshokwane road merged with the H1-2 ?
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

Mel@nie,
I don't remember what the old restaurant at Skukuza looked like - but your photo looks a lot like the Letaba restaurant?

Thanks for sharing

Dear Bennievis,

You are quite correct - that is Letaba Restaurant and not Skukuza.

Many thanks.
