I'm not sure if i have this at the right place. So MODS you can move it please if you want. I was wondering. Can anybody tell me who was the person that decided the Sanparks logo will be kudu horns and what year it was? I remember when i was a small child my dad got the custos magazine and even then it had the kudu horns logo on. Why kudu horns? There's so many other animal heads they could use!!!

It must be something you can stylize. Can you think of something more beautiful then the head of a kudu bull? Impala hasn't got the spiral thing

And kudu is found in basically every Sanpark !!

Doh. I asked about that while in Kruger and our guide told us, but I don't recall. I believe the logo came down to kudu or waterbuck, and whoever was in charge at that time (memory fails!) made the decision. Mods, anybody know?

If it was my choice i would have used the head of a nice big tusker.

Or a sable.

but the kudu has prob the most distinct horns in the park. a frontal sable wouldn't be as easy as a kudu to identify on a emblem.

Perhaps because the kudu horn is so popular in so many areas in RSA , has anyone sen how often they are mounted on exterior walls of farm and other houses ?

On second thought, so true, Joekin! An oryx wouldn't be a bad option, but they are probably too narrowly distributed to be truly representative.

I think the Kudu is a very distinguished and like it as the official emblem. Still does not answer who made the decision for it to become the official emblem of SANPARK's.

I am going on a savanna and grassland course this weekend and will see if there is anyone that can help.

i honestly think especially since the emblem is a single colour and not detailed that the kudu horn was the best choice.

do you think we would be having the same discussion if they had chosen roan or eland??

its just such a easily identifiable "pattern"

If I remember correctly the emblem used to be a bit more detailed in the past. In a green shield with a yellow border.

As for the Sable, that is used by the Wildlife Society, with a profile view.
