Wild Card Programme System Implementation Update

South African National Parks (SANParks) has been working on implementing our new Wild Card Programme system for some time and to date over 72 000 Wild Card members have received their new Wild Cards.

The process of migrating data and implementing the new system has not been without its challenges and a number of the technical aspects have not yet been delivered to us. The managing director of our technical supplier, Expand Technology, has responded as follows:

"Firstly, I want to reiterate our apologies for the perilous situation we have placed SANParks in. Expand Technology SA acknowledges its responsibility in the significant delay for the Wild Card system implementation, its impact on SANParks reputational damage, and the deep frustration of the Wild Card members as a result. We take this matter very seriously and are fully committed to its urgent resolution, and we have as a result committed ourselves to directly resolving and unblocking this situation." - Michel Teyssedre, Expand Technology

In order to minimise the inconvenience to our valued clients during our peak season we are currently implementing the following:
Membership Renewal

Please note that you can renew your membership online at We will also be contacting clients with expired or expiring memberships who are visiting our parks during the peak season. We will assist you with proactively renewing your membership online and updating your renewed membership details on your card to ensure minimal delays upon gate entry.

Gate Access Control

Improved controls are being implemented at the gates to enable more effective membership validity checks for all our members, whether they have received their cards or not. You will be granted access upon presenting any of the following:

your new Wild Card, OR
a valid Temporary Wild Card Voucher (received from a Wild Card Partner), OR
a valid SANParks RoomSeeker Payment Receipt, OR
a valid Wild Card Confirmation Letter
AND a valid South African ID or passport
Wild Card online processes

A number of areas are being addressed on our website, with particular reference to completing and updating membership applications. These improvements will be on-going in order to address all issues logged by you.
