Unfortunately, I'm logging in here while I'm on holiday, and with some Wild Card problems. We renewed our Wild Card on 5 October at Marakele. We checked in at Karoo National Park yesterday, and I was told there is no proof of renewal of my Wild Card. I was asked if I have the receipt of the Marakele transaction - which I obviously did not have, if I do - it is at home! I went to check my bank statement and it showed that on 5 October my credit card was credited with R595 to Marakele National Park! The people at Karoo National Park were very understanding, but it is long weekend, and the problem can't be sorted out telephonically. My biggest problem is that I'm going to KTP on 27 Dec, and the system will still show my Wild Card is not up to date! Now I have to try and spend holiday time sorting this problem out. Quite disappointed in the system... :( SANParks, can you maybe help???

The computer system does not allow for cards to be updated with new subscription information. We renewed our Wildcard nearly a year ago and have tried to get the chip on the card updated at Addo, Storms River, West Coast, and Table Mountain National Parks. The story was the same at each one, namely that the card update facility no longer exists (even though it used to work under the previous Infinity system).

All the park can do is manually check the system to see if your number is valid, there is no means of updating the card, and no record is kept of your having entered the park (hence the lack of any reward system being available). The card itself is just an ornamental piece of plastic.

You need to keep your renewal letter at hand.

That's if you ever receive it. Months later and no sign of our new card......

Hi Ken,

You will only ever get one card now, regardless of how many times you renew. The card is personalised with your name.

If you did not get a card when you originally bought it (many people didn't, I know) please contact Wild Card (contact details can be found here) and they can arrange for a card to be sent. Many cards that were issued got returned because they could not be delivered.

saraf... Why do SANParks continue with the printing of Wildcards?

They serve no purpose whatsoever since the staff at the gate now use our printed letters and membership numbers.

I visited seven National Parks last year and none of them had working card readers. All the staff did was punch in our membership number on their keyboards and the computer told them whether we were registered and paid up.

Far better to save money and use it for something more useful, like saving the rhinos!... :)

I also had a problem after renewing on the 9th Feb 14, I just spoke with my legal team and they advised me that the contract they they have in place is valid for renewing an existing membership, however where there is maproblem for SANPARKS is when an existing member applies for a new membership, there is nothing that advises the existing member that they are bound by the original contract, they clearly have some grey area's??

I just had a call from the Consumer protection Authority, who also checked it out and based on what they have looked into, will proceed with my application!

If you have any problems contact them, they were professional and very prompt, waited not even one day!!

I completed the online form using the number from my "New" Earth Wild Card but when the process was completed I see that I now have a new Card number and so I am not sure whether any time left on my previous card was taken into account or have I now lost that?

It would be a nice feature to get an e-mail a month before expiry with a link to the webpage completed with your correct number.

I think so (just my opinion) and the people at the gate might ask you to do so at the first camp that you book in to, Mauxie.
I lost my card some time ago :slap: and have since just printed and laminated my confirmation letter and have never had problems when presenting that. Just keep your receipt in a safe place too.

Thanks again, Matthys. I did that last time and it was fine but that was September two years ago and I was just a bit concerned that things may have changed since then. I am soooo looking forward to my trip.
