Readers General Quiz (OQ)

Unread postby Nungu » Fri Jan 08, 2010 1:55 pm

Ok, after some thinking I have decided to start the Googleprufe Readers Quiz.

But as an open quiz - to ensure it's survival. The idea is to post questions about facts that the quiz master found in a book that he/she has read. Preferably something that can not be found on the internet (Googleprufe).

This is how it'll work (rules of the quiz if you like):

1. Open quiz - so anyone can post a question.
2. The subject is open - so anything interesting about wildlife and conservation.
3. It should, as far as possible, be Googleprufe.
4. Upon confirming the answers (or helping other poor souls out of their misery) the quizmaster must quote his source.
5. Sources can be any book, publication or magazine etc.

My aim with this is:
1. To get people reading
2. To help forumites identify books that they might be interested in. For instance a question is posed about Kruger names that I find interesting, and the quizmaster quotes his source as such an such a book... well I might just want to read some more about the subject and now know which book to look for.
3. We would all learn things that are'nt general (not on the internet).
4. This will be a slow-moving quiz with difficult questions - I accept that... but let's see how it goes.

Ready...
Steady...

GO!!!

To start off:

What was "Operation Trampoline"? And how successful was it?

You said in Kruger - oops.

Ok another one - has it got anything to do with game capture?

 naughty naughty Woodlin.... :naughty:

I will give the title of the book as a clue if I see guys are struggling, but there are plenty of really well-read people on here and they would immediately know what I'm talking about.

You may Google it if you want to...I just hope it's not on there

PS: Yes it was in Kruger ... ssssshhhh

The Kruger in my first post was just an example - posted questions can be any Sanpark, mammal, fish, bird etc.....(see my last post)

No nothing to do with game capture

Hi. Did the operation only involve elephants/ivory?

(This is tough, but nice!)

Hi Larissa,

I see it's difficult but we'll see how it goes... I think the problem is that people don't know which book it comes from - should I give the litle of the book maybe? :hmz:

PS: It's not really about poaching alone, although indirectly it would/could have been also... any kind of poaching...

maybe you should give the book title. Even if it is just to get the thread going properly!
(i will probably cheat and google the title, but so will most of the 'mites! )

I will check back a bit later!

Ok... let's see - this comes from a well-known book:

A game ranger remembers by Bruce Bryden :hmz:

Operation Trampoline elsewhere in the world (USA, Aus) is used for referring to the smuggling of drugs of all sorts. I am not sure what that has to do with KNP, but I know that an Australian expert was send to SA for the transference of skills in this regard.

We need to buy books. :slap: Christmas will be here soon.
