Hi Marissa

A warm welcome to the forum.Image

In the 32 years I have been going to kruger, I only saw wild dogs once. We look for them every year, but with no success. I think it's just being at the right place and at the right time. Good luck and we hope to see some lovely pictures of the doggies you'll find on your trip.

Ps... When and where are you going?

I concur with PK area, as well as close to Afsaal. I saif somehwere that when I worked at Afsaal, I saw more wilddogs and cheetah on that road than anything else.
If it helps, I got 6 on the way to work this morning- just outside skz. But I do not think they will still be there when you get there. They have legs :D

completely forgot to welcome you to the forums earlier Marissa   So a very warm welcome to the best place on the WWW

It must also have something to do with conditions within the bush as one christmas in B+D we had an unbeleivable 5 different sightings of them

Hi Marissa

I was in KNP this last weekend and on Friday, 4 Dec, came across a pack of 10 dogs on the road between Lower Sabie and Croc Bridge, approximately 10km from Croc Bridge. I too have been going to KNP for over 30 years, and this weekend was the first time I had ever seen Wild Dogs. As always, "Right time, right place".

Cheers, Andrew

Good luck .... it is what you need!

The road I have seen them most is the tar road between Afsaal and Malelane, usually closer to Afsaal. Also a few times in the Crocodile bridge area, especially the river road to Malelane and the H5.

If you want to see dogs, avoid areas with large concentrations of lion. Such as the grassy plains on the S28, the area around Satara, east of Lower Sabie, etc. They can travel through those areas too, but they actively avoid areas with many lions, since lions are their number one enemy and cause of death.

I saw them on the 12 of November on the crocodile bridge road. About 3 km from hippo pools.

Marissa, I hope you have a successful trip - you certainly seem determined to see your wild dogs!

We have seen them a couple of times on the H4-2 between Crocodile Bridge and the H5 turn-off. Once we had just entered at Crocodile Bridge and were putting our ID books, Wild Cards, etc. away, when we spotted the "Crocodile Bridge pack". They were right on the road and we followed them for about half an hour. They weren't really hunting - more playing around. Another time we missed the main pack by minutes but saw one dog, also on the H4-2, but closer to the H5.

We saw them once at Sunset Dam, near Lower Sabie.

Have also seen them on the Doispan Road at the junction of the S4, which goes through to the river road.

Good luck and let us know what happens!
