Meteor 21 November 2009 over Limpopo

Unread postby wildjohn » Sun Nov 22, 2009 6:56 pm

Hi,

Last night at 11 pm , awoke to a loud explosion, at first thought it was Venetia mine and explosive activity there, kind of akin to artillery shelling going over head..the sky and veld lit up, and there was this rumbling tremor..It seemed to be a meteor, and passing overhead Mapungubwe Park going west - Im guess in landing in E Botswana ?, NW Limpopo ?

Anyone experienced this ? Have any news

Cheers

w

Wow   .
Flanagan said if a bang was heard, it meant that the meteor had disintegrated in the sky.

wildjohn wrote that a loud explosion was heard. Does that mean that it broke up then?

Around the same time in southern Gauteng I saw a trail that I thought was a flare due to it having a low trajectory .
It seemed to be travelling more or less north to south .
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

My son also saw it here in the Free State. It was about 23h00, he said it was so bright that he could see the leaves on the tree outside his window.

I was watching TV on Saturday evening and saw a very bright light outside! I immediately stood up and went to the window but by that time it was gone!

I've heard on the radio today that a piece of the meteor may have hit mother earth close to Pondrift (spelling?).
They are now looking for it!

I'm no expert, but maybe it was the McNaught comet which has crashed here in Africa! :slap:

Just found this. The second part is slowed by 50%. Taken from a building in Joburg.

Oddesy...very much so....

Lockie & I were watching a doc the other day about the apocalypse...they said earthquakes could be one of the signs...that night there was an earthquake about 200kms away...
