2. Doesn't look like a fella, looks more like a female Weaver, but the features are not jumping out at me, possibly Cape?

It probably is but if you had told us from the outset where the pictures were taken we might have been able to identify the bird then. For all we know the bird was photographed in the Zambezi River valley in which case we wouldn't even have considered Cape Weaver.

When asking for an ID

Hi,

I was looking at some pics from my first trip to Addo in 2006 the other day, and came across this picture. Friends often see it and ask me what bird it was, but I still don't know  . It was seen near the restaurant by the road on the way to the main game viewing area. It was in March as well.

Any ideas as to what bird it is would be appreciated.

I may not be from Africa, but since my first visit a part of me always remains there. Can’t wait for the next trip, which will be the 10th

Ah I've been trying to get a photo onto the forum for days and am having an absolute nightmare getting it to work. Thought I'd finally figured it out, but clearly not!

Back to the drawing board. I'm trying to use Flickr to help do it, and have followed the instructions I found on the forum but just not working :(

I'll have to pull my hair out some more and will let you know when it's back on with a pic. It's a shame cos I've loved seeing everyones pictures over the years since I joined, and thought it would be great to give some back to the forum family.

Wish me luck

Hi,

Ok let's try that again, and thanks Kamadejo  . Photo should now be attached. Hopefully someone can tell me what bird it is! It's funny but for the last 4 years all I've had is that photo and have been wondering every time just what does it's face look like :hmz:

Thanks in advance,

Sharky, I'm absolutely no expert, but for me it looks like a weaver. :hmz:

Hi Sharky,
This is what your bird's face looks like
It is a Cape Weaver, they love aloe flowers and their faces turn red from the pollen
I took my pics in the Addo Park. I see there is some spekboom in the back ground
of your pic, was it also taken in Addo?

Good morning everybody. I hope you all had a good weekend.

The following is hopefully a Cape Weaver.

I was also so happy to see my first "static" Malachite Kingfisher at Intaka Island, now if only I can keep the camera as static to get an in-focus shot it would be great.
