A big thanks to all those who already have reserved the front row of the theatre. :D

In 5 weeks time(it seemed so far off when we decided during our trip in 2007) we will be in the air, on the first leg of our 8th(well for the 2 mature ones) trip to SA & Kruger.
We leave Sydney on Thursday 13th Aug, and arrive in CT on Friday 14th Aug. 9 nights in CT, 1 in The Craggs, 1 in East London, 1 in Durban, then Kruger as follows

The tour party will consist of prings(David), lorrainepring(as herself, subject to Hyaena quarantine regulations), Mcfluffy(Katie), gudge(Cameron) & Brook, our grand-daughter. Callie will present herself in a photographic form :cam:

As has been mentioned in Meets & Greets, we will be attending forumite meets along our way. We will be donating R20 for every forumite we meet. So billy, joe & Scip, no disguises to increase the donations :naughty: :naughty:
The above mentioned members of the family, will all be taking part in posting reports & photo's.

A Quick reminder notice. During our trip we are raising funds for SANParks conservation. This is in the form of us donating R20 for every Forumite we meet during our full SA trip. So check to see if a meet is happening near you prior to us entering KNP, during our time in KNP(already meeting several worldwide forumites in this time) & after KNP.
It will help the donation tally, but also give you a chance to meet new faces :D :D
The first event happens in a bit over 2 weeks

Well at long last, I am starting.

Friday 14th – Tuesday 25th.
Cape Town to Durban. We had several meets with forumites during this period. We met many great forumites, so’s & families. Thank you all for the hospitality & great times we had.

Wednesday 26th Day #1 in Kruger.

We left Durban, after we had beaglenapped an honorary 4 legged forumite. Well visited anyway. We did another forumite stop on the way to Berg en dal, via Swaziland. We had a LATE entry at Malelane gate. We were met & escorted by Raymond. So our first night drive.
Sightings from Malelane gate to Bnd, were very poor. We first saw hippo & large spotted genet. Then the sightings got worse. Next in a 5 minute period, we only saw a rhino, small herd of running buffs, and followed at a distance by 2 male lions. 1 x 18month old & an older one. Then the sightings stopped. Raymond had our keys, and helped us unpack, trying to make little noise at the late hour.
First night in Bnd, with 35 more nights in the park to come

For all those forumites who are looking for some Aussies who support the Boks, look out for a Silver Nissan Primastar Van, with Yellow & Red Ribbons and force us to donate R20 for your effort. You might even get a token for your effort

Hi everybody. Thanks for all your comments. I would like to say sorry in regards to the reports. One should know by now, that heavy schedules, long distances & internet connection, do not always go well in Kruger.
Next report is about to follow :rtm:

Day #2. 27th Aug. Berg en dal.

Up on arrival at Bnd, there was some confusion in regards to our booking & activities. Raymond questioned us as to why we were only staying 1 night, and not doing the ½ day drive with him. It seems that a combination of bookings, do not connect to each other. Our Sept bookings included the activities for the whole trip, including our Aug activities. Therefore our drive was delayed, owing to Raymond having to do a walk.
We finally got away at 10.10, with the feeling of a wasted drive, owing to the time. We just had to suffer the consequences.

We travelled on the S110, H3, S114, S25, Gardenia hide rd, Biyamati loop, H3 & S110. We had lunch at Afsaal.

Sightings for the trip in sighting order, were as follows.
Impala, Southern ground hornbills, elephants, lilac breasted roller, guinea fowl, vervet monkeys, bateleur eagle, buffalo, African hawk eagle, grey lowrie, black rhino dung, burchells starling, terrapin, kudu, hamerkop nest, red bill hornbill, cape turtle dove, yellow bill hornbill, magpie shrike, steenbok, crocodile, grey heron, water monitor, pied kingfisher with fish, black crake, blacksmith lapwing, white breasted reed cormorant, giraffe, 40+ herd of elephants, plus several smaller herds, brown snake eagle, puff back shrike, burchells zebra(speeding delivery truck near rear-ended us at this sighting over crest of hill. The only reason they missed, was because Raymond drove forward. Missed by less than a metre), coqui francolins, arrow-marked babler, blue wildebeest, warthogs, red creasted korhan, white rhino’s(1 bull, 1 female, 1 calf), white tailed mongoose, 2 leopards together(BIG 5 IN 20hrs of entering), 1 female & calf rhino, p@m, 1 female & calf rhino.

After our early thoughts as to what the day would be, it turned out OK. :cam:

   billy

Day #3 Friday 28th August – Berg en dal

An early start, to a long day. Raymond took us to his community of Justica, which is out through the Paul Kruger Gate. This meant potential excellent sightings from Berg en dal & Paul Kruger Gate. Sometimes hopes do not live up to their promise.
We visited 3 pre-schools & a primary school. We also watched some cultural singing & dancing. Before we left Australia, we posted a box of small gifts to distribute during our community visit. We are now 11kg lighter. :D It was an excellent visit, and a great way of teaching gudge(Cameron) & Brook, the privileges they take for granted back home in their schooling & daily life. Thanks Raymond for an excellent & sobering experience.

Then it was back into the park, and a late bite to eat at Skukuza. We had no sooner seated ourselves, when we were approached by a “stranger”. We were taught, and our children have been taught, never trust a stranger. This “stranger” walked up and said, “hello Lorraine & David”. We were lost for words, and even who it might be. LP finally guessed who it was. Robert T. He was waiting for the other BUFF suspects.

We left Skukuza to check a sighting on the H1-2, not far from the camp. At the 4 ways outside Skukuza gate, we spotted yellow & red ribbons. None other than the infamous Martie G. 2 new forumites in a short time. We then checked the sighting, and continued our sightings drive back to Berg en dal.

The roads travelled in order were. S110, H3, H1-1, H11, H1-2, H1-1, S114, H3 & S110.

The sightings(quiet day) in order were. Nomadic lions x 4, rhino x 3, wildebeest, zebras, rhino & calf, giraffes, hyaena x 4, impalas, guinea fowl, waterbucks, francolins, warthog x 7, lilac breasted roller, magpie shrike, vultures on dead giraffe, white-necked raven, bateleur, elephants, Robert T, buffalos, skukuza bats, Martie G, wahlberg’s eagle, LIT with impala kill, BIG 5 BIG 5, kudu, fork tailed drongo, p@m(again), rhino x 2(laying down), duiker, black-breasted swallow, black-backed jackal, dwarf mongoose, rhino x 2, burchells starling, hamerkop, fish eagle, darter, grey heron, Egyptian geese, monitor, martial eagle, swainson’s spurfowl, grey lowrie, WILD DOG x 2WILD DOG x 2WILD DOG x 2, brown snake-eagle, white-tailed mongoose & scrub.

Did i mention that we saw wild dogs :cam:

As per advice handed out by BB about Tamboti, I would like to give the same about Berg en dal. Do Not go there & do a drive with Raymond or his colleagues. The Sightings are Terrible. :rtm: :rtm:

Day #5 30th August Berg en dal to Letaba.

Another early day and long drive, but with a forumite breakfast along the way. Packed the van, and drove out the gate at 06.20. Our first destination was Afsaal for breakfast. As if it was scripted for a movie, we approached the Afsaal picnic spot, just as our breakfast guests turned off the H2-2 from Pretoriuskop to join us. It was Hugh & SO. Well actually the real Hugh, and Elizabeth, minus Dougie. We had a good meet, then it was time to keep on going to Letaba. Our next planned stop was Tshokwane, to say hello to Guepard. He was away, but his father had control of the complex.
Then it was off to Letaba.

Roads travelled in order. S110, H3, H1-1, H1-2, H1-3, H1-4, H1-5, H1-6 & S62.

Sightings in order. Cape turtle dove, rhino(in total 12), impala, magpie shrike, yellowbilled hornbill, redbilled hornbill, ground hornbills, grey lowrie, francolins, vervet monkeys, burchells starling, zebras, wildebeest, warthogs, Hugh, kudu, duiker, oxpecker, white egret, lilac breasted roller, dwarf mongoose, rock monitor, elephants, giraffe, bateleur eagle, Martie G, guinea fowl, buffalo, baboons, vultures, waterbuck, squirrel, hippo, heron, Egyptian geese, saddlebilled stork, slender mongoose, mountain reedbuck, steenbok, ostrich, LIT, blacksmith lapwing, marabou stork & fish eagle.

Sadly we did not find lion. :hmz:
