What is your view on this beautiful road between LS and Skukuza?

This is a great road in terms of game and in the past we have seen tons on it,and I agree that it is a beautiful road. But we usually avoid it because it is very busy.

Many leopard and lion sightings on this road

We have had some fantastic sightings on this road, BUT it can get extremely busy, in season, weekends etc.
Not called "Eloff" street for nothing.

We have also had great sightings on this road!

We traveled that road several times and were not once dissappointed! Big 5 and many more!!!! But the road is very Busy!!

Last June the road was really busy and gave us some great sightings, mainly of traffic jams with everyone straining to see a twitching ear or tail. The week just gone the road was really quiet but that's probably because there was nil animals along it. Even impala were scarce. We did see 6 tortoises on one trip along it though.

I love the road, busy or not. It is very scenic and there is a lot of eco diversity.

The most dramatic sighting I have ever seen was a male baboon running with a recently killed scrub hare. It was very gory

This is supposed to be the road with the highest concentration of leopards in the Park. So, never amiss to glide along it, especially the first part until the main bridge across the Sabie. Lions are always in abundance too. After the bridge, there are all those so delightfully quiet, backwater views of the Sabie, each promising untold excitement.

Because of the thick vegetation closer to Skukuza, you've got to keep those eyes moist, because things can scamper so quickly across the road, especially elephants. I once was dreaming away of greater things to come when a shaggy something screamed across the road. It was so quick I had no time to react, and to this day I can only imagine what it might have been - hopefully only a hairy warthog, so I didn't miss too much! There are often raptors in the bigger trees too, and always baboons.

My favourite sighting along this road probably was being broadsided by a herd of elephant and having to switch off the engine as they milled around the car, their trunks exploring the fenders and bonnet! Also trumpeter hornbills, a gymnogene, and several lion sightings, including three on exposed riverbed rocks, six strutting in single file across the road, and four walking down the middle of the road for 10 minutes.

I never concern myself with all the traffic, bacause I always get a good viewpoint anyway, despite my low sedan.

The more I go to Kruger, the less I see along it.

We never stay at LS & Skuk anymore, unless we can help it, so then we don't do it at the extremes of the day.

Sightings are often impossibly traffic-jammed, so more experienced Krugerites have their own 'hot spots'.

Having said that, I have seen LITS and a lion kill on this road, but never cheetah or wild dog.

We had a great sighting of wild dog on the S79 a loop off the H4-1 a few years ago.

Saw Wild dog at Lubyelubye just after gate opening in July 2006. We were the only car and followed him for 1.5 kilometers.

Also saw a couple of Leopards and lots of Lion on this road. This female crossed the road after quenching her thirst in the Sabie river. The pride were feasting on a Kudu bull and yes traffic was hectic.

Have seen Lion, Leopard, wild dog, cheetah, giant eagle owl, nyala and all the other usual "suspects" along this road, even in recent times, BUT it is like the N1 highway in peak hour. It has advantages of good sightings especailly in dry times but far too much traffic for my liking

Sadly, I recently came across a "freshly" killed impala ewe next to the H4-1 one mid-morning, 10 km odd from Skukuza. I hate seeing things like that, but it was obvious that the animal-basher had driven off and just left the animal. I never know what to do in situations like that, so, on the spur of the moment, I did get out and pull the animal by the legs to the side of the road. At Skukuza, I reported it to the office, but they already knew about it. In the late afternoon, the animal was still there, starting to look less fresh - perhaps the authorities were just waiting for Nature to take her course that night?

Many posts have been very critical of this road and its traffic. But somehow it still manages to deliver something special. We have travelled this road frequently for many years and have never spotted a cheetah on it. Recently on a trip, our camp neighbour reported a cheetah about 5 kms from Lower Sabie. (I actually did not believe him). And now Martie has found a cheetah with its kill 4 kms from L/S.
Is it not unusual to find cheetah in this area?

Cheetas seem to get deeper into the bush nowadays.
We found them in dense thicket at Kanidooddam a few weeks back.

As for the road. Perfect sightings nearly every day.
