Fair comment. I hope that when they cull, they take this into consideration. Would hate those magnificent genes to be weakened even in the slightest

As far as I know they mostly cull family groups. Cows and smaller calves. KNP has got some of the biggest tuskers in Africa. There are hordes of good genes in KNP to last a long time.

I was fortunate to see Mabarule a year before he passed on. I also saw the Shingwedzi one tusk catankerous eledude and several other monsters ele's with lekka tusks.

You should seriously reconsider stop drinking that champagne at 6:00. :twisted:

Nope, never seen a tusker of note. Seen some extraordinarily large bulls (Pic below was one), but none of the great tuskers.

I have tried looking for the original Duke thread to no avail.

Elsa, no one is realy sure, but he is estimated to be between 55 and 60. He does not have many years left, so if you want to see him alive, it would be a good idea to go now.

Thanks for that WTM.

We are only due to go in Feb. and May/June next year but will make finding him a priority. I would hate to miss out on seeing one of the biggest tuskers in the world in the flesh.

Pictures aren't too great. Had to get it off a 2001 video tape.

Here is somepics of what was believed to be Mabarule we took south of Mopani. As we all know, he died last year. Enjoy! I have some video clips too. If interested send me an email to wildtuinman@yahoo.com. It is fairly big. 20mb each, 2 clips.
