Thanks all!

He must have been a very small version or his parents weren't feeding him too well! He also flew away and was not waiting to be fed!

Believe me, his parents weren't feeding him AT ALL! They're rather bad parents that way.

Can someone please help me ID this bird. Seen in Kruger, close to Nkhulu picnic site. It was in a thick bush. A very shy bird, the moment I stopped and tried for a photo - it moved deep into this bush. It's call is what drew my attention - I think it might be a warbler. My guess :hmz: Icterine?
It has a yellowish wash to the breast and belly, olive-greenish back, lower mandible yellow/orange, black/dark legs, light ring around the eye, and a very light eyebrow stripe.... Size? It seems bigger than a willow warbler.

(again, it was overcasted and raining, so the photo quality is poor)

Now I am confused. I was under the impression that it is a Burchell's Coucal. Is there any difference between the Senegal and the Burchell's Coucal?

Hi Tionet,
When and where did you see this bird?

Thank you Jen for moving the post. :D

We spotted him/her in December 2008 on the H4-2 on the way to Lower Sabie. It was raining that day and this bird did not seem very happy about it.

Your #2 looks to me like it might be a blackbellied korhaan. I don't have a clue on the others.

Hi Arks.
My first reaction when I saw No 2 was a korhaan,(northern black?) but then I thought it was too small? A Black bellied Korhaan is about 60cm tall, the bird I saw was no bigger than about 45-50cm about the same as a Guinea fowl?
I've re-looked at my photos and the book and perhaps the 1st guess- Northern black korhaan is correct? I'm really not sure as I think we were almost out of its range

Northern black korhaan was my 2nd guess, Pat. It certainly doesn't look like a dikkop to me from your photo. Amongst other things, I think the neck is too long :?
