Golden Gate: Brandwag Accommodation

Unread postby cuand » Tue Oct 21, 2008 3:15 pm

Hey guys, we going up to Golden gate in december and staying at brandwag in a self caterign bungalow.
Just a few questions:
1. Am i correct in saying that the bungalow has 2 rooms?
2. Does anyone have any photos regarding this accommodation?
3. I imagine it is bloody hot in december there?
4. Other than the park itself, what other lekker activities are there to do?

We have not been to golden gate for probably about 10 years now so not sure if it has changed much because I dont really remember the place from the last time I was there

Cheers
Cuan

cuand, there are pictures available from this page. Golden Gate has lots of different types of self-catering accommodation  If you click on the one you've booked, then you'll get another page with details about that type of accommodation as well as thumbnail pics. Click on the small pics and you'll get get a larger version.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies. I have pretty summed up the type of accommodation we are in. I think its a double room, but has a fully equipped kitchen therefore self catering.
What else would one do here outside of the park. Things like visiting clarens and other activities?

Cheers for now

Hey Cuand,
We stayed in one of the bungalows during August. Here is the layout. An open plan full kitchen including microwave. One bedroom with twin beds in the open plan part. And a separate bedroom with a double bed in a room that you step down to access. The bathroom is adjacent to the open plan part of the bungalow. Outside you have your own patio area with table, chairs and BBQ (braai) area. Very nice place we thought.
For a change though we want to stay out at the log cabins at Highlands Mountain in December--but if that doesn't work out might see you at the Brandwag bungalows.
The landscape in the region really was surprising to us (since we are from California). It reminded us of the American southwest. No one has commented on the weather in December yet--is it rainy there? Hot and humid? Anyone know?
Cheers.

Thanks California girl.
Would be nice to know the weather at that time. I would imagine that it would be pretty hot in dec with thunder showers in the afternoon.

Hey Gals and Guys,
We were at Brandwag on Jan 1 and 2, 2009, after two days at Highlands Mtn--(breathtaking hardly does the cabins justice!)--and we had a good experience. Arrived early, but they allowed us to check in since cleaning had just finished. Can't recall the cabin number but it was on the upper level above the main road. There was noise during the day and early evening from a large church group in the cabins, but they were quiet well before the quiet hours we saw posted someplace. Probably they were worn out from hiking up the mountain, as we saw them on the trail.
Our cabin was in good repair and well equiped. We had no complaints, except we had to leave to get back to work.
Give them another chance Cuand!
Cheers

Hi cuand

We normally call them chalets and Golden Gate climate is quite unique; it is mid highveld summer with the possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon and cold winters, with occasional snow transforming the park into a white wonderlands. My opinion is that weather in December is fine

Some of the Activities in the Park are: Rhebok Hiking trails, short nature trails, Game viewing,Short guided nature trails(booking is essential), Environmental education courses varying from 1 to 5 Days, Horse- riding availble (Booking is essential) and Abseiling and canoeing available(Booking is essential)
