What is your view on this road?
When driving this road in July we saw Lions, elephant, buffalo, impala, zebra,Giraffe and Wildebeest. But for me this road isn't about the animals it's special do you want to know why?It is the start of your long awaited Kruger holiday the sounds, the sights, the smells and of course the heat! :) Please post your experiences of the road here!

For those who don't know, it is the road from Phabeni Gate to Skukuza.

I agree Amadeus, it is a very special road. It covers a number of eco zones with the possibilty of many sightings.

3 years ago we stayed in Hazyview and went into the park everyday, using mainly phabeni. It really is a great road with lots of game. As MM said it also covers a large number of ecozones so the variety is great. :)

We saw the big pride of lions near the dam again on Saturday morning. There were 8 cubs, and they were playing in the road. One of the females was injured, and was bleeding on her head, and had a bad limp. Hopefully she'll recover soon !

Hi Guys! Think its an awesome road, def in my top 3!
Last week tuesday was in for a full day and saw 3 leopards in 10 minutes!!
One was in a tree just past the nwaswitshaka road. While viewing another report came of a female just 2kms down the road lying alongside it! As we got there she was walking nextto the road in the direction of some monkeys in a tree! She lost interest and moved off! As we started the car and looked up, there was a huge old male walking straight down the road towards us! Was amazing and like nothing other! Saw pack of wild dogs just past nyamundwa the next day!

Hi Bush Boi, how lucky can one be to see 3 leopard in 10 min. Remember the Doispane road as one of my dads favourites when we where kids.
I will always admire him for learing us one of the good things in life, and that of visiting the Kruger Park. Still do so and could never get enough. Was there in Des. 08 and look forward for our trip in March.

If I look back at my notes, this road has produced more predator sightings for me than any other. All the large predators are seen regularly and a few smaller ones as well.

Agree with MM, the variety is special.

In the old days before the existence of Phabeni gate I used to take this road early in the morning when staying at Skukuza or Pretoriuskp and had many good wild dog sightings and also leopard a few times.

These days whenever I have entered the park from Phabeni gate, at gate opening time, I have seen lion in the vicinity of the Nyamundwa Dam. The lion roaring (see video below in my signature) was seen here and a few kilometers from this lion we saw a leopard and further down the road Hyenas that had a den close to the road and pups all over the place.

White Rhino and ellies also seen regularly.

Awesome video Sharifa,

Thanks for sharing.

Have never seen anything major on this road but nevertheless really enjoy it. Closest big sighting I had was a leopard that I just missed by a few seconds in October 08. I happened to sit directly under my vehicle in a culvert beneath the road. Waited for a fairly lengthy period but with no luck.

If I had a dollar for every 'nearly' leopard, I could buy Tamboti.
