I may have the wrong spot in mind .
GS , you need to visit the KNP more ...
There are defenitely rocks on that road , as you travel eastwards , on the left there is a laybye (loop) .. I have dreamed of leopards on those rocks .
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

I missed this one , apologies , also have been accused of not giving enough people enough chance to reply .
It is Makahane . The ruins , similar to Thulamela in structure but apparently much more recent are on top of the cliff . Quite coincidentally (?) the cliff has the appearance of a human face . I do not know of any report of treasures such as Mapungubwe and Thulamela , allthough anthropologists & archaeologists have been to the area in the last few years .
Makahane was a despot (nothing new about African history) who apparently ruled his subjects with an iron fist . According to a number of trails guides who I have been to the spot with , one of his attributes was that he would defecate in an urn mixed with milk , and any unfortunate subject who vomited while having to drinking it would be forced to stand at the edge of the cliff pictured , holding an animal skin drying in the wind and tied to a branch or held by another transgressor untill he or they fell over the edge from exhaustion . Early visitors to the base of the cliff apparently found remnants of human bones .
See my trip report 14 nights in Kruger... see here.
