Not a Martial ... front of the martial juv. is almost pure white. Just a bib when young, gaining some spots as it gets older. Not the large amount of dark feathers this one has.

Why? Didnt even think of that. But anyway.. IMO this one is to light for a juv fish eagle. They show a lot of white during flight but when perched, barely any. Where crowned juveniles are much more lighter and a tad rufousy. Also juv fish eagle has a mostly yellow bill? Juv crowned mostly grey. All these pointed me to crowned. But im probably wrong, havnt seen fish eagles enough to judge, so I see where you're coming from Imberbe.

I id this as an juv fish eagle. Roberts mentioned the whitish tail with brown or black tip.

No ... juvenile fish eagle do not have a yellow bill.

The juvenile fish eagle can show a lot of white when perching, as the amount of white is increasing as it gets older.

Nannie, your Eagle is an immature African Fish Eagle. The mottled belly and streaked breast are the pointers. An immature African Crowned Eagle has yellow feet and almost no markings on the chest or belly.

Bahamut, your Eagle is also an immature African Fish Eagle. And your tail pointer is a very good one to follow on your pic.

Again. the mottled belly and streaked breast are the main id points for this species.

We were sitting at Sunset-dam for about an hour or so watching two fish-eagles. They flew to the opposite side of the dam so we crabbed the binocs to see what was going to happen. They landed about a meter away from a crock that was inside the water but close to the edge. The next moment the crock hit the water with his tail and a fish came flying out! The fish-eagle flew up and crabbed the fish and both of them flew away.
