People always say the Cheetah has Kind Eyes, The Lion has Serious Eyes and the Leopard looks right through you in a very cruel way...I agree but I think the Caracal out does the leopard in the Death Stare Department as this one shows

A beauty indeed!

After reading through the "Addo Animals" thread I am definitly aware of the fact that Addo is THE place to spot a caracal (and magnificent lions and kudu's too) but with the current fuel price........

Havent read all the posts but from my experiences WCNP has been the best for me. Saw a female with two large kittens on the 17th Jan 09 near Kraalbaai.
Saw an adult male in Postberg watching bat eared foxes a few weeks back and another nearby.
For the WCNP must have seen well over 20 by now - dont think there is a better place to see them.
Otherwise one at S100 S41 junction and 2 subadults that used to hang around the Augrabies Falls picnic site.

I recently spent 2 nights in Bontebok. On the morning of 9th March about 1 km from the rest camp I saw 4 Caracal together - female with 3 almost fully-grown kittens. Couldn`t believe my eyes, but there they were, and then disappeared into the undergrowth.

The SO and I are celebrating our 1-year anniversary in Uncle Paul's paradise at the moment (I'm posting this from our tent's deck in Tamboti  )

As per my normal theory, I try to get onto the roads most removed from the main tourists' thoroughfares. Today, that landed us onto the Old Main Road, leading down the Eastern border from Olifants south towards Satara. As this is a rather barren area of the park, I wasn't expecting much (and truth be told, we didn't see a heck of a lot...) But, what we did see was rather special:

I think I vaguely remember seeing one cross the road about 15 years ago, still stuck in the back seat as a kid. This one was oblivious to our presence, though. More than two minutes would've been nice, but just seeing this little 'big' cat is something I'll remember for a long time...

Way back in October 2007 on a trip to Addo (where else?) my wife, Gillian, & I were lucky to see a Caracal with 3 kittens. One of these was not shy and relaxed reasonably close to us. The next day we came across them again for even an even better photo opportunity. This photo is from the first day.

The next day the family was relaxing in an open area between Gwarrie Pan & Rooidam. A 4 striped grass mouse had been caught, probably by mom, and one of the kittens was playing with it. It was fantastic to sit & watch for over 15 minutes as this kitten played and challenged its siblings.

Hi Gwave, amazing photo's

I filmed in KTP a fight between a Caracal and two Black Backed Jackals about a kill. The Caracal killed a Bat Eared Fox and the Black Backed Jackels had stolen it from the Caracal but the Caracal is taking it back. 8)

Slow-Motion
