Where did you see it WTM?

I have never seen this bird in Kruger or any other National Park for that matter BUT last year during our visit to the Natal North Coast I got lucky!

We were on our way from St Lucia to Mtunzini and went into the town of Riachards Bay to look for an ATM. Somhow we got totally lost. While driving around we ended up next to this house with a beautiful large natural pond on the edge of the property. There were a lot of birds around so my husband had to stop the car for me to have a better look. (Difficult if you are the only birder in the family!)

While scanning with the binoculars I found this little beauty! Quality of the pics really bad - was on max zoom.ImageImage

Super stuff naomi c! Lovely pic of an adult you have there.

I saw mine just outside of Pretoria this morning. PM me if you need any further details.

I saw and photographed a pair at the Nylstroom Wetlands in March. The photo allows identification but otherwise is not a publishable standard. Anyway I have not found out how to include pics yet. I have not seen the Pygmy Goose in KNP or other Sanparks.

A gorgeous couple of these beauts were displaying for us in Kruger over the weekend.

Here is one of several shots Laine took.

Hi,

I don't want to sound stupid. But where is Leeupan? My mom and I also want to see this beautiful bird.

Hi there

There are actually quite a number of Leeupan dam/waterholes/pans around that I can imagine it gets confusing.

The Leeupan in question is situated on the main tar road between Skukuza and Tshokwane in Kruger.

I see they still found the Geese there last week, but I would say time is running short if you are hoping to still connect with them.

Off the H1-2, on the left as you travel north from Skukuza to Tshokwane. You often also get the Allen's galinule, lesser moorhen and the pygmy geese here. I have been fortunate to also spot a Dwarf bittern here. See this trip report.
