The West Coast National Park has received a lot of negative media coverage in the area for the last couple of months due to their proposed building of 10 log cabins over the water within the park itself. The plan is to do this development on the pristine water of the Langebaan lagoon at Kraalbaai. A lot of protest has gone up as the people of the area are of the opinion that the WCNP management's role is to conserve the unique lagoon and to ensure that the natural heritage and beauty must be "spared" for future generations. Interesting enough, in a article in the Weslander (local newspaper) dated 1 May 2008, positive contributions through various avenues already available to the public was requested. And guess what, the following was mentioned on the different avenues available:
" Firstly address the issue through the Park Forum which link between the community and the WCNP Management within the following framework: Park Forum Mission: The community, in working partnership with SANParks, ensures and maintains harmony and balance between conservation of the biodiversity, community and sustainable development in and around the WCNP"
People on the West Coast are blessed to live so near this lovely lagoon and visitors also enjoy it's pristine waters. So, if everybody make use of this avenue to start a debate in a positive, orderly and civil way, it may be possible that solutions to most of the problems/challenges be found without damaging one of the most beautiful places on the West Coast.
Please have a look at the above-mentioned document as posted by Restio.
