Hey.

There's often Buffalo at Mooiplaas, don't think they're resident but have seen them there a couple of times :D !

A pair of Saddle-Billed storks lives at the stream in front of Makhadzi near the Giriyondo Border post!

Seen a pride of lion from Babalala before and vervets prevelent there as well :).

Tshokwane vervets can be a pain though, took a guava roll from us last time  !

Thanks BA.

I have only had brekkie at Tshokwane once (July 2007) and I never even saw a vervet monkey there. Thought that problem was only limited to Nkhulu.

The hornbills can be rather pesky at Afsaal though. They were just as painful at Tshokwane last year.

We've had vervets harass us many times at Afsaal. We saw them steal food from a neighbouring table just recently and on one occasion the chased some toddler size kids  . The monkeys will appear where ever people have food.

hi we have just got back and had a fantastic time in KNP. At the Afsal picnic site we had 2 elephant, bushbuck the scops owl and grey hornbill + vervets. Great -sightings. I'm not sure if the elephant are resident or just passing through but we were suprised that they came so close!!!

Lately (last year or so) ellies frequently walk close (and even through  ) Afsaal. There were a few pics hanging when I was there in January this year. Lets hope they dont become a problem aswell

Hello All,

We are planning on stopping for lunch at Afsaal on our way from Jo'burg to Skukuza in May, can you tell me if there is a shop/takeaway there or is it bring your own? Last time we went into Berg but it adds a bit on to the journey. Passed Afsaal on the way out in Jan but didn't go in. Sound like a great spot to stop.
While at Berg in January we saw a woodpecker, vervets, a monitor lizard and a very large croc at the edge of the clear water all in about half an hour. The vervets ran into the shop and stole some dried fruit. We had a great view all round the croc swimming which made a change from a pair of eyes in murky water.

Three weeks today we leave Scotland :D I also have to confess to being addicted to reding the forum and watching webcam.

Talking about Afsaal, didn't you lot see the photo of the ele that was stuck between the ablution blocks a couple of years ago.

Last year, at Tshok, I saw a Buff pat in among the tables in the picnic area, but it was probably just passing through, and not a resident.

I saw a yellow billed kite flying in the canopy there once, and also at Nkuhlu.

Saw the Scops yesterday at Afsaal. High up in the tree and I had the shakes from lack of sleep so could not snap the pic.

The monkeys at Nkhulu are no more. Noitces up in the loos explaiing what happenedto them. Very sad to see they have been shot.

NOTE TO TOURISTS. Do not feed the animals. You are signing their death warrants by doing this.

To the management of Nkhulu. You have cleaned the place up very nicely and it's looking great.

Was at Timbavati a couple of times between 18th and 23rd April. The bushbuck is still around with a young male offspring that she's teaching to beg too :( She had a vey swollen right hind leg and was limping badly. They are not always in the picnic spot -- sometimes can be seen down in the river bed.
