hi all

i was just wondering if any of you have seen snake sightings and what snakes they are and if possible some photos.

Had two lovely snake sightings on a walk last week.

First a Black mamba, lying in a game trail. He just let us know he was there by standing up, and then moved in to a bush.

Secondly a nice Puff adder. We almost stepped on it, before realising it was there. That could have been nasty!

Have a nice pic of a phyton seen near Berg and Dal on a night drive. Will try to submit them.

that would be awsome sawubona!!! do you by chance know of any snake clubs?

Sept 2006 - Kgalagadi, many Cape cobras, some puff adders and a mole snake.
Jan 2008 - Kruger, corner of H1 & S25, puff adder

we have just come back from kruger and saw a dead black mamba as someone drove over it

Just returned from KTP. saw Cape cobra in the camp at TR in front of chalet no.5. My brother's son (3 years old) was about 3 meters from the snake. Luckily when it started to lift it head, the little one ran back to us and did not go closer. Did also see Puffies @ mole snake.

On my trip (25 - 28 April 2008) to KNP, I came across a freshly killed Schlegel's Beaked Blind snake on the Main road to Satara and also a dead Striped bellied Sand snake on the road between Nkuhlu Picnic spot and Lower Sabie.

I returned today from another trip (21 - 25 May 2008) to KNP, I saw the following:

A dead juvenile Rufous Beaked snake on the S36 between S125 and S126 - 21 May 2008

An adult Mozambique spitting cobra at Nkumbe Lookout point on the H10 on the 21 May 2008. Quite scary - no face protection or feet protection.

A dead Striped bellied sand snake on the road between Nkuhlu Picnic spot and Lower Sabie (H4-1) on 22 May 2008

An African Rock Python on the 23 May 2008 on the H4-2 a couple of meters from the turn off onto the S28.

A dead Striped Skaapsteker on the 24 May 2008 on the road, between Nkuhlu Picnic spot and Lower Sabie (H4-1).

What a pity of all the dead ones. Cannot say whether they are killed by cars or not. Am I allowed to presume so??

We say this puffie two weeks ago on the S110 to Berg-en-dal

We presumed it was roadkill shame.

We saw a PuffAdder in Biyamiti Camp.. I have posted the photos somewhere and will try to post them again

Was this puffie in Biyamiti about 10 years ago?

I also saw a puffie at biyamiti, was found by a cleaner in front of the hut next to ours.
The cleaner used a charcoal packet for gloves and grabbed the thing. He posed for a few pics with the snake then walked away withi it (i presume/hope he released it unharmed).
Kathy, is it possible that this is the incident you are referring to?

Saw this snake curled up in the winter sun in June 2007. Have no idea what it is. Any ideas?

Do you perhaps have a bigger picture?
