Depending on what you want to do , 3 days will be enough for just going there and comming back to Nossob ..

The water problem will not be fixed sometime soon, acoording to the Botswana authorities .Take along plenty of water if you can .

Take your own water anyway. When you can get Kalahari water it tastes worse than wildebeest piddle!!

May one do Mabuasehube trail (entering Bots and ending at Nossob) as a single 4x4? Has anyone done this alone?

DB, we are going there in October. Done a few trails in KNP alone. Won't mind this one but, still need some research.

Yip Twice...go in at McCarthy's and stay a few days at Mabuasehube and then drive to Nossob on a great 2x4 road...the road from the border is thick sand tho and is best done early in the morning when the sand is firmer for easier ride and flotation..did it as a family twice and once with a PE doctor and his family in their Defender. You have to book at Gabs for this and it is "officially 2 vehicles" but they let us go as they could see we were self sufficient right down to handheld plane radios (SOS facility)

Thanks guys for your help. We'd like to enter KTP there, and take a couple of days to do the trail to Nossob and then spend time in KTP. Also thinking of going during October.

While checking in on the Botswana side to camp at Rooiputs over the Easter weekend, I enquired as to the water situation at the camp and was told that there was none. I was also told that the camp (Polentswa as well) has been privatised and that a lodge is going to be erected.

Does this mean there will no longer be camping at Rooiputs??

Does anyone else have any further details on this?

I heard rumours about lodges on the Bots side as well in February.

On was written out at Marie se draai. I have no clue if anyone was interested in the offer.

It seems that Bots Parks are handing out concessions for lodges in Central Kalahari, Makgadigkadi Pans, Nxai Pans and KTFP (Bots side, of course). With this comes an upgrade in infrastucture etc, but the downside is that some areas might be no-go for the average traveller. It also appears that they will be privatising Central Reservations, and thus their own camps in all their parks.

We'll have to wait and see what the implications are.

It would be an enormous pity if access was limited for the camper who enjoys the stay in unfenced sites (such as is available on the Bots side).

Touring and camping through Central Kalahari, KTP and Mabua have always been special.

Anybody know if Mabua has also been included for the handing out of concessions?

Yep, they've written out concessions in Mabua, too.
