Forum Olifants River Back-pack Trail

Unread postby G@mespotter » Mon Feb 18, 2008 8:01 am

Hi all :D

I know of several previous 'attempts' to arrange this, but I am quite serious......I was thinking of a 'forum' Olifants River Back-pack Trail in April 2009 (yes, its quite loong into the future  ). Just give me some time and I will get you guys the specific dates etc. This means I would like to know if any other formites would like this idea, and tell me here if they are interested....It would be awesome if we can get 8 people together where we surely know they love nature, the environment and the animals out there!!! Let me know....

Read about the trail here: Olifants Back-packing Trail or here Olifants River Hiking Brochure Find out about the price here Tarrifs. If I am not mistaken, the price works like this: R11 300 divided by the number of persons participating, with a maximum of 8. So the cheapest would be R11 300 / 8 = R1412, 50 per person!

Hi all :D

Just checked the dates.....As per today, I would say the ideal dates are Wednesday 1 April 2009 starting and 4 April 2009 ending, but a possibility would also be Wednesday 8 April 2009 starting and Saturday 11 April 2009 ending....

I think April is a good month to go as the bush is still lush, daytempratures (normally) not that bad and night tempratures (along) the river not too cold......sounds perfect, isnt it

I will be a starter !
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

Hi all :D

New update again (yes, this thing is rollin! 8) )

Some of the practial issues:

My aim is to get some sort of 'permanent list' before booking time. Actually, if possible at all, before the last week of April 2008. Ideally, if it is possible, I would like to have 2 or so person 'on the bench', so might any of us be hindered to participate, we have a backup plan...

So you all have 2 months or so to think, which I think is reasonable. When this list have been 'provisionally finalised' I had the idea of organising a meet, at some 'central' location for most of us!
At this meet I intended to discuss the practical stuff like paying a deposit, getting details, making further arrangements etc....

I'm a person of organising and planning, and the least I want to have a chaotic situation and some unhappy formites, so lets do this propper!! Looks like it gonna be a moerse fun thing, and the first of its sort!!!!

Please, do not hesitate to pm me, even if you only found out about this now!

Hi Monne

Since I will be in the Park, living out my dream, :D this would be a great break from the caravan life for a few days, and also interact with some ppl rather than being by myself.... Count me in! :) If it happens that you have too many interested, I could always be one of the benchsitters

Ok Dudes. I'm in.

Will have to square it up with SO later, but I'm in.

I lost the dam thread so I just had to play a bit of catch up here.

I suggest we do this as a "Boys' Weekend / walk" thing.

I will probably get beaten and bashed about for making the decision without consulting SO, but I think we will all be safer (those of us who are married) if we keep it as a boy thing.

No confusion, supsicion or any other doubts about it. Being a walk, SO's will think we can't take loads of dop so will believe that it won't be a big drinking binge.

If the angels want to go along, they can arrange their own and we can "compete" for sightings.

Conservation is not an option.
It's imperative.

Leave KNP alone. Go build a hotel someplace else. Reserves are for the preservation of wildlife.

Think Pink. ..
