My daughter took some pictures and she will mail the best to me once she has down loaded them.
It really is an idylic place in many ways. The water was the most stunning turquoise, it was difficult to think that it was not a tropical paradise.
We were fortunate to experience the most perfect spring day.

There were not that many Dassies, but the one's we saw were very bold and not at all worried about the invading human creatures. I also thought that I spotted a Mongoose. I was very excited about that, until my daughter reminded me that they were among the Penguin's worste enemies and would steal their eggs.
There were many unhatched eggs around.

Goodness, but the Penguins can be noisy. Such a small creature making such a big sound
No wonder they were given the name "Jackass".

I will certainly put this lovely little place on my "regulars" list.
The bird doesn't sing because it has answers, it sings because it has a song.

Re: Boulders Souvenir Pressed Coins

I'm new to this forum, so I hope this post is OK!
I am from the US, but am an avid National Park visitor - no matter which country!
I've never been to South Africa, but besides national parks and hiking/backpacking, my interests are birds (I actually discovered a new bird to science in Peru in the 80s!), and collecting pressed coin souvenirs from around the world.

Recently, I heard rumors that the Boulders area at Tablelands NP has a souvenir Pressed Coin machine that presses a design for the park on a smashed coin!

If anyone has any info on this coin/machine, and especially, if anyone would be willing to sell or trade with me for it, I would be very grateful! It would be a souvenir that would combine all my passions - national parks, birds (assuming that the design on the coin is a jackass penguin!!), and pressed coins!

I hope to one day visit SA and their national parks - Tablelands, and especially viewing the penguins at Boulders - is high on my list of places to visit....and SOON!!

Any info would be greatly appreciated!
You may contact me offlist also!
Cheers!
Tristan

Sorry this reply is really late but for those of you who are interested there are pressed coin machines on Table Mountain as well as at Boulders. I have sent Tristan a pm.

Popped into boulders yesterday with my brother and girlfriend from New Zealand. As there are many lovely photos of these adorable penguins on this thread I won't add mine. I will add this little vdeo clip though.

This little chap entertained me for quite a while
http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2dmh2lz&s=3

He was picking up a stick, waddling away with it, dropping it, searching for another and heading off in a completely different direction each time he found a new stick.

Delightful little creatures....note to self...

Go there more often
