Hi there guys,
Speaking of which, I'm looking for a website where you can download free ringtones of animal sounds for your cellphone. (Is anything these days still free??? ) If you guys know of any please let me know. I found a few but the ones with proper sounds all want money. Can't wait until our next KNP trip, so in the meantime I can then close my eyes and dream about it whenever my phone rings. Looking for maybe Hyena calls, Guinea fowl and water dikkop, and of course the jackal. Will appreciate your help.

You probably could but then you still have to search the songs for the bird you looking for, would be nice to be able to go find folder for species you looking for and then the specific bird

You all mean something like this, but for a different continent?

I have this cd (look under bird sounds http://sabirding.co.za/products/index.htm ) but a track has several calls on it which means having to fast forward a track to a certain time to find the bird you looking for. If it was an ipod you could save each in a folder such as "eagles" and then enter that folder and find the bird you looking for. Just a lot easier

Experimenting with my samsung phone software where i can cut and paste sections of a track in a new folder but its very time consuming

I sent SA Birding an email requesting some kind of idea as to when they might have the SA Bird Calls in Mp3 format [while I am an Apple iPod user, there are other guys out there who are into all sorts of Mp3 players]. This was at least 5-6 months ago. Anyways my request has been ignored. But I am glad to see that someone else would like the same product from them.

Edit: Francois - hope you have better luck than me.

I've just emailed SA Birding about this and let's see if I have success with an answer.

If not we can get the next person on the "list" to send them an email

I know a guy in Limpopo who has got just that - bird calls on his cell phone and if I'm correct also on ipod. Its got the scrolling function as well. The program was done for him by a student. I'll follow up and send further posts.
