Prings on the Road Again - August 2007

Unread postby prings » Sun Aug 19, 2007 11:02 am

Well not quite

We leave for Sydney on Wednesday evening, for our flight to Cape Town on Thursday. :D
We will be in KNP from Saturday 1st to Saturday 22nd Sept.
That is as long as we survive the CT gang on Sunday 26th Aug.
We will be armed with Laptops & Broadband USB modems, so hopefully we can do our daily reports.
So if you are in KNP, look out for the travelling billboard. In other words, the slogans & design blown up and laminated, and to be placed inside rear windows. I suppose we might put on the yellow ribbon also.
If you spot us, then stop us and receive your Aussie reward.

Having a perfect day in CT

Arrive in Kruger next Saturday

Spent many hours setting up usb broadband (with technical help from rental supplier confused & working on it) for the reports to be done every day, if not from on the spot reporting.

At last.
Each day i will post a shot for the down to earth people, and the stiffnecks. On some days i might throw in an extra or two.

Sunday 02/09

Punda to crooks corner. Roads traveled H1-3, S60, S61, H1-8, S64, Pafuri picnic spot to crooks corner, border post & return.
Visited Frank at Pafuri & left some gifts.

Today showed that it is good & bad to show yellow ribbons, and to have the 3 forumite pigs in the back window.
Good = People remember your vehicle for looking different.
Bad = They stop you over an hour later (remember the ribbon & sign) to ask did you see the LEOPARD just after you left Pafuri picnic spot. We were about 100 mtrs ahead of the car that did. They said that it came from behind a mound & walked along side the road, just after we had passed. NO WE DID NOT.

Sightings for the day = Kudu, impala, squirrel, buffalo, zebra, warthog, elephants, vervet monkeys, reedbuck, steenbok, blue wildebeest, crocodiles, waterbuck, baboons & suni.

Question = Yesterday we saw both male & female kudu. Today we saw dozens of female kudu, and did not sight any male kudu at all during the day. Does anyone have an answer for this. Remember forum rules on sexism, before you start.

Nice report and lovely pics, prings. Thanks for sharing. :D

Wow... Suni?! 8) Please tell us you got a pic? Never mind the quality

Also, did you happen to get another pic of the 2 Nyala bulls? The one on the right has a funny horn... do you remember if it was broken off or grown the wrong way?

A nearly leopard prings. I could buy Ayer's rock if I had a dollar for each one I have 'seen'.

Enjoying your reports. You have gone from one corner of the country to another. Hope you SEE a leopard.
Whatever (according to BB): "You are correct but I don't want to admit it".

Jose = yes i have more. will post another at a later date. Grown the wrong way, not broken. They were having a friendly contest. You could say that it was a "hornicapped" event.
BB = trying to upload some shots that the stiffnecks should like. The time that it takes to upload with the slow connection, you could buy, demolish, and rebuild ULURU before the upload is completed.

Tuesday 04/09

Shingwedzi to Mopani.

Reception service excellent again.

Roads traveled = H1-6, S52 (no elephant block today), S49 plus various side tracks.

Sightings = Kori bustards, giraffe, nyala, bateleur, sharpes grysbok?, elephants, waterbuck, kudu, spoonbill, yellowbilled stork, redrocks waterhole teaming with giraffe/baboons/warthogs/impala at play & drinking, LION, zebra, secretary bird, massive herd of buffalo (approx 1000) at mopani camp turn off, hippo, various birds.

The gods are smiling on the accommodation at the moment. Tent #2 at punda, new bungalow B55 at shingwedzi, and now #51 at mopani with incredible views of pioneer dam.

The area from pafuri to mopani is the worst i have ever seen it. It is so dry & barren. There are areas with no activity at all, owing it to be dirt & lifeless bushes.

Also yesterday afternoon, i think i spotted a wild dog. Sorry that should be a wild-doc, heading south from shingwedzi at 16.00 in the opposite direction. Saw yellow ribbon as vehicle passed us. I did not have time to persue. So that was our first ribbon spotted.
