Crimson-breasted Shrike were seen near the Punda gate recently. Unbelieveable. Please report sigings of it if seen in Kruger, if they were to show up there.

What a beautifull bird...

Was lucky to spot this little one yesterday ... I thought the colours were outstanding

Now if I can find the Yellow variation of it ...

KTP is the place to see them, especially Nossob camp.

But they are difficult to photograph! I have lots of not-so-good photos.

You are right Restio. Ive taken lots of photos of them at Nossob in the days of Velvia but they jump all over the place!!
Im dying to let loose on them with free digital film!!!
Once at Kwang we had 4 together in the tree above us and on the ground as we parked in the shade under the tree at the windmill

Seen in Kalahari Tented Camp April 2007.

Have seen them every time we visited Marakele. When camping there at the end of April we had one at our campsite every day. The problem is - it never sat still long enough for a decent phtograph.

I am sure there are quite a bit of forumites that do not receive Trevor's rarity report or other news from Pretoria bird club and therefor might not know that there has been a sighting of the rare Yellow morph Crimson-breasted Shrike, between Klerksdorp and Wolmaranstad this past week.

It has been sighted at a Lodge by an atlasser. It is called Klipfontein Lodge on the Klipfontein farm. Just past Bona Bona Lodge.
I believe some people have had great sightings of this bird there and maybe they can post some of their photos here for others to enjoy, as it is really a beautiful bird.
As for myself: I went through there on Friday, and while still parking the car saw the bird on the grass next to the 'foreman's' hut, but he then came running on to assist and the bird was off. There after I had 3 brief sightings of it, of which I was able to take the two rather poor photos below.
The wind was unbelievably strong and horrible - so I figure that also kept the bird away. Despite waiting in that wind for another 2 hours, it did not return. I might try again this week....
