Side-striped jackal? Who has seen one in Kruger?

Yes, I did see one. Many years ago, in the 80's probably. On the tar road leading to N'wanetsi from Satara if I remember correctly.
Grandparents has seen them more often than that though, but I do not know in which areas unfortunately.

Saw my first two side-striped jackal 0.3 km outside of Crocodile Bridge on the H4-2 on 3 July 1991 @ 15:35. The only other one (and the last) I saw was on the old S104 to the Albasini Ruines (nowadays the S1 tar road leading to Phabeni Gate). Saw a single one 3 km from the S3 junction at 09:55 on 3 April 1997.

only one i've seen was on the H6 around Satara.

I was travelling north in the shrub mopane belt between Shingwedzi and Punda in 1998 at 11h00 in morning.....one darted in front of my car , stopped ,turned and looked and was gone in a flash....never to be seen again

We saw two at the Kumana dam last year

We have had two sightings, both times near Letaba camp. The first sighting was of a single animal and the second sighting there were two animals. We saw them late in the evening on both occations coming back to camp. As you leave the camp you turn left onto the S46 gravel road, between that junction and the first river crossing.

I've seen one in September 2004 near Mlondozi Dam. Same as Chris: Sighting late in the evening, going back to camp. Seems like they are not too common in KNP?

We saw one last month, 25 April. It was on the S28 in the “burned areaâ€Â

saw one on my second to last trip to KNP, near Letaba.....dont ask me for the name of the road but i think it was the loop that goes around Letaba going towards the dam.....

It's actually amazing that they are in SA almost only found in Kruger. Their habitat then goes through pretty much half of Swaziland and the onto the coast of KZN till about Richards bay/Ulundi.

2 sightings, each on a night ride, one from Lower Sabie, the other from Letaba.

Saw 1 near Punda Maria last month. Our first ever.

that looks like a bbj to me. SSJ have a white side stripe and while I know night viewing is tough (the only privalage I get is after call more 7pm) im sure the pronounced black stripe is typical of aged bbj. The back starts to get more grey and the definition between tan and black gets more pronounced...as I shall try demonstrate *google*
