Wow! That's a nice one Katja!

I still think that should be renamed to white fronted butterfly eaters though...

Also saw a lot at the low level bridge on Biyamiti river on s25 in 2001. Got lovely pics of the background with green blurs in front.

Also at Matambeni hide near Letaba and Mooiplaas picnic site.

The following is not SANParks related, it does however concern a very interesting pair of White-fronted bee-eaters (Mods you can remove if necessary)

On Saturday morning, when we stopped at the Crossings Mall in Nelspruit, we were greeted with the strange sight of a bunch of photographers in the parking area…they all seemingly had their massive lenses pointed at the building. Eventually my SO’s curiosity overcame him and he went to enquire as to what the commotion is about.
A pair of White-fronted bee-eaters made the parking area of the mall their home. 8) They have a favourite tree where they keep on returning to after they caught something….this is a small tree right in the middle of the parking area and surrounded by cars and people. They are relatively tame thus you have a chance to get close and get nice photos…..there is even a photo of them in the latest Lowvelder newspaper.
For those of you who are going through Nelspruit in the near future, the tree is situated in front of the Mopani Photolab (coincidence?!? )

Found this WF Bee-eater on the Mpongolo-loop, the 28th of July 2006. There was a couple of them, and were very busy hunting insects.

We waited for ever to see if I could make pics of them flying. At some point one of them stretch one wing, which ofcourse I made a pic of. Then he stretched the other wing, which I captered as well. Nico started to laugh and said: glue them to eachother, and you will have a flying bee-eater. These birds really can be very comic.

The Biyamiti Low Level Bridge on the S25 seems to be a very good place to see them.We saw these ones in November last year.

They are one of the most colorful birds I have ever seen I can still remember my first one ever as a boy of about 7 yrs and coing down to the old hippo pool closeby from Balule with the armed guard and there was one hawking insects flying from the reeds. This is one I took recently at Crooks Corner and they still take my breath away such is their beauty.

You don't need to even leave the camps - these were taken from the Letaba restaurant. They were flying under the verandah roof, catching flies etc with a very loud 'snap' then perching to enjoy the feast!
