Nice pics, girls.

I've seen them now daily for the last two days in my neighborhood. They really are beautiful.

This one's got me puzzled :hmz: I know it's a redheaded finch, but am wondering whether it might be a young one just moulting into adult (female) plummage? Seen in KTP in February 2010.

I agree  I think if it's a male moulting it will show a hint of red on the head like the bird in the back of this pic, don't you think?

Thanks for confirming my guess, Lizet, and for also showing me a moulting male  What a gorgeous photo!

I see the Red-headed and Cut-throat finches regularly in my garden in Pretoria, but I have never seen them together in Kruger. On Monday 3 December I drove through the satara camping area and found a little puddle created by a water leak. The birds absolutely loved this water and within 10 minutes I saw Red-headed finch, Cut-throat finch, Red-billed quelea, Burchell's starling, Red-billed buffalo-weaver, House sparrow, Mourning dove, Southern masked weaver, Grey-headed sparrow, Blue waxbill, Greater blue-eared starling, Laughing dove, Pin-tailed whydah and Willow warbler!
