I don't find a topic for this bird, so here's my contribution. It's one of my favourite birds, but I've always found photographing it a real challenge. This is my best so far, but not great

Modesty is the kind of pride least likely to offend.

It's a good shot, shows all the detail, is in focus and has none of its subject's parts obscured by intervening objects.

These doves are normally off in a flash, but this one sat relaxed until I got a decent shot. Here's mine:

Great shots Arks and Johan. It is not easy getting a photo of them.
Their call has to be one of the most tranquil sounds in the bush…apart from the call of the Burchell’s Coucal of cause …makes that tense neck muscles just go numb

Thanks johan, restio and Jumbo — and also thanks Johan for adding your ecellent pic to this thread I agree about the old name, restio — especially as this bird's "green" is a true gem colour, clearly "emerald"

They really are beautiful and amazingly quite common compared to their Blue cousins.

Just love their call, so peaceful and typical of the parks.

I really love these birds a lot.But this is the first decent shot I was able to take so far.

I wish there were a way to record their call for the forum. Their mournful call is so evocative.
On our last trip, Freda and I saw the Doves, but much to my disappointment, they kept silent.

Habitat: Most woodland, Acacia scrub, gardens, dry sand forest in Thongaland and arid savanna.
Habits: Usually solitary or in pairs. Takes off with loud wingclap when disturbed with a zigzagging pattern. Lands abruptly, usually not far away, then raises its tail once or twice. Feeds on bare ground under trees or on roads and clearings. Male usually perches on a low branch while calling.
Food: Seeds, berries, termite alates.

Green and bluespotted Doves

I have noticed these two birds some distance from another eating seeds falling from my bird feeder. Would have loved to photograph the close together but with the help of photoshop I can now show the differences bewtween the greenspotted and bluespotted doves by merging them http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa27 ... merged.jpg
