Confluence of the Makhadzi & Letaba rivers, Anna Ledeboers

Unread postby Cees » Fri Sep 15, 2006 10:41 pm

I think, it is up on the S62 towards Longwe lookout, just after the turn off to Anna's grave or at the very end of this road (after Anna's grave) where the Makhadzi flows in the Letaba.
Going to South Africa is coming home !!
Finally home now!!!

It is indeed the confluence of the Makhadzi and the Letaba. This unnumbered road is the second right off of the S62 (the first right is Matambeni Hide :)) and follows the Makhadzi down to this clearing. The clearing is actually before you get to Anna whatsit's grave, which is off to the right, along the Letaba/Engelhard shore, where the track continues into a thicket.

DQ gave me permission to post his stunning panorama shot, taken from the same spot.

Thanks Arks!! I just remember now that I visited Longwe viewpoint and Anna's also last year. I also tried to visit the confluence, but there was this big grey moving roadblock :(

I dunno, Cees, I think you have to go past this spot to get to Anna's grave ... I don't recall there being another road.
The road that arrives at this spot follows the Makhadzi and arrives at a clearing next to the confluence.
You then follow a narrower track that leads off to the right, paralleling the Letaba's bank, to reach Anna's grave.
I don't recall that track being a loop, but I could well be wrong about that

It is. If you follow the river you get to this spot, then are forced to go right where you first get to a little more open area. (I'll post 2 photo's of that later.) Then you go a little further and trees are everywhere again, and Anna's grave is there. Follow the bend there and you end up about 20-30 meters from this spot again.
